Hugh Freeze “appears” to be gaining steam per Bunker + others… convince me Freezers

First, I am against Freeze because of his pattern of poor decision making.
BUT, let’s throw that out for a minute. He doesn’t excite me because of his record either. If he was such a great coach, why hasn’t he been linked to other jobs?
I’d love to hear from the folks who want Freeze why we should be excited about him. He beat Bama 2-3 times but never made to Atlanta. Even when he paid recruits the best classes he had at OM were 7th and 9th (I believe that’s accurate). The rest in the teens.
Sell me on why Freeze is a slam dunk and not an 8-4 coach.

I don’t like Freeze but it’s important to keep it in context… Ole Miss has never been to Atlanta and never been a Top 15 recruiting program.

Just can’t be true. You mean we’re gambling with all that baggage just so we can win 8 or 9 games a year? Freeze is a good coach, but not great. He’s not worth the risk at all.

You must be looking at his record wrong. Look I don’t give a flying frick if you like him or not. Dude would be a good hire and he would actually give a frick about Auburn. So sick of this moral BS. Auburn wants to win and Hugh Freeze fricking wins. I’m not gonna spell his record out for you that is open to the public and is shown to be a good one.

He took over a team that had lost 12 straight SEC games and had them in the Sugar Bowl in his 4th year during a time when the SEC West was at it's strongest.

And because it’s “gaining steam on the bunker “that means a lot

His record at Ole Miss was 39-25. This is good?

Ole Miss in 2011 was about as low as a program can get… it was a total shitshow. Freeze immediately paid off both on the field and in recruiting.

You’re right, this could have been phrased better. Bunker, “insiders,” etc. seem to be implying gaining steam.
Should have left that out or reworded not to lose focus.
I legit want to understand why people are excited about him.

Some people think because he had one ten win season at Ole Miss that he’s the best coach ever. The rest of his record at OM is hardly impressive. And his team now is on a downward spiral and just got destroyed by NMSU and Jerry Kill.
The whole “morals” thing is concerning, and the fact that everywhere he goes he leaves them in worse shape than he arrived. But even besides that, his coaching record is average at best.
And if we’re prepared to totally disregard character, there’s a whole lot better coaches we should be targeting. Urban Meyer, Jim Tressel, take your pick of other sleazy characters.

This is missing context. They went 2-10 in Nutts last year and 4-8 the year before that. They won 7 games his first year, 8 his 2nd, 9 his 3rd and 10 in his 4th before the bottom fell out. His coaching shouldn't be the issue. It's the off the field things that are a problem.

"Excited" would be a stretch for me. However, weren't we arguing a week ago that Lane should come to Auburn because the ceiling is much higher than at Ole Miss. Why is that argument valid for Kiffin but not Freeze?
And while 8-4 is certainly not the goal, it's a major upgrade to the Boys from Boise.

It's VERY good. Freeze won at OM in a way they hadn't won in 50 years. He was hunting a baited field so discount that as you will, but the guy was outwinning his recruiting rankings / talent level massively via coaching.
Debate his morality all you want but the dude can coach football.

Good context. Yes, shows he improved year over year.
I hate to say it but regardless of who we hire, it’s probably going to be a couple years until we’re back at the top unless our new coach hits the portal hard to fill needed gaps.

He’s literally leaving Liberty in better shape than he got there if he left. Logic is flawed. What are you gonna say? He lost his last game? Yea, so did Lincoln Riley and look at him.
