You mean outside of the six years he spent at MS State and Florida…?
Try harder.

We could do worse.
At least it isn’t Mullen himself

Oh my. Sources? They always have sources. Every fricking story has sources. And every fricking time fricktards fall for the story and its sources.
Just like this one.

Would a very underwhelming hire.

Lets see
Saban was not an SEC guy when LSU hired him
Brian Kelly was not when LSU hired
Urban Meyer was not SEC guy when UF hired
Is being an SEC guy overrated?

all of those guys mentioned were at the top of their game in the college ranks. I assume you would want someone who already has inroads into the SEC recruiting if he is not a big time name that people would recognize easily. Would you consider this guy a big time name should he be hired and would you also think your AD whiffed at the big time names being floated around.

It is going to be Cadillac. Everyone else has an excuse not to take the job or is too toxic.

QB coach at UF in 18-19, then OC for 2020. Bolted to the NFL after one year as OC.
He was more responsible for the success of Kyle Trask and the UF offense than Mullen. Popular with the players. Good coach and a savvy play caller. Was not surprising how the wheels totally came off in 2021 with him not around.
He will likely be a good head coach - but I believe he was one of the guys that wanted to bolt to the NFL due to NIL and fear of what it might do to CFB and the demands on coaches to coach, recruit, and handle NIL dynamics. So, I don't know if he'd want to hang around college for very long.
Not sure if people remember, but to start 2021, Mullen was asked about flirting with the NFL (no one wanted him, not even for a discount) and he said that he and many others were worried about the future of CFB, NIL etc. So, again, I'm not sure if this guy wants to stick around college or not. I'm sure he wants the raise, though.
I think he should just wait and get an NFL head coach position. He's going to land one, for sure.
Why isn't Cadillac named HC by now - former player, team has played better since he took over, he loves the school, knows the school, and has not looked like a fool despite being young and new to being a HC. He can only continue to get better. This is literally the worst he'll ever be as a HC and he's breathed life into the program. Seems like a no brainer to me. Unless he absolutely does not want the job, they should offer it to him.

And he did all right there, but he shined at Alabama after he had SEC experience.

Too soon to tell. He just lost to the worst team in the west.

Couldn't handle the pressure and almost died.

If by almost died you mean quit when Saban showed up, sure.

imagine doing all of those interviews talking about serving the players and coaches, and then get hired full-time, and having to fire all of those coaches to get "your guys" in place.

Fire two coaches to end up with who?
