I don’t know what this means. Kiffin was the top guy until it didn’t work out. Freeze was the backup plan the whole time and that situation played out.

The problem here is that Lane is the bread winner in this situation. They (the family) can’t see down the road to the immediate future where TX and Oklahoma join and AU resurges as well. Going from middle of the pack in the west to the bottom half is not good for job security. That is why you take the money at Auburn, take the additional resources and facilities and take your chances. Sticking with OM is just delaying the inevitable and the family ends up having to move to god knows where for his next gig.

Folks don’t realize what all goes into making a decision for the family as far as schools, friends, etc.
Thamel said both sides (Auburn and Lane) discussed how to make things work on this front but couldn’t in the end. This shows Lane really wanted the Auburn job.
Thamel really knows his stuff and has the true sources and contacts.
