The greatest Egg bowl ever 1983: the freak wind gust gives Rebels the win

I was at this game, unfortunately in the State section with a good high school buddy and his dad in their primo seats. The game was in Jackson then. We had our flag poles with spear tips and they had the damn 8 pound cow bells. Many a fight was avoided by “we will gladly kick your arse but first you put down that cowbell, no first you put down that spear” lol.
I have still never seen anything like it a 40 mph gust literally came out of nowhere and blew the ball out of the goal post. This prompted my host to say “ Well Damn, I always suspected God was an Ole Miss Lawyer”
Ole Miss goes to 6-5 and the Indy bowl against Air Force. State implodes and hires Rocky Felter or some loser.
The wind from God game

I still have never seen anything like that. The damn ball was going right through the uprights, it wasn’t even that windy that day. That shite came out of nowhere. I saw it kicked and going through and slumped down with “Damnit, good game” and was prepared to shake hands and congratulate the bullies when the rebel crowd erupted. I didn’t see the Miss until I saw the news the following day

My father (Ole Miss fan) was at the game with a bunch of Bulldog fans. They left the stadium and drove 22 hours to McCook Nebraska for a 5 day pheasant hunt. Dad said the drive up was 22 hours of silence.

Lol. I rode back with them to Ocean Springs and it was same exact deal. Silence broken every once in a while with, “can you believe that shite”

That was the first Egg Bowl I attended.
Sitting in the opposite end zone. The State fans jumped up then the ole miss
fans jumped up. Didn’t quite understand
why the FG wasn’t good. Fights everywhere. Helluva game.

The god of this world...
Ephesians 2: 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.

If you watch the replay there was an older man down by the goalposts wearing a Red Independence Bowl blazer. He had an invitation in that jacket pocket to hand Ole Miss in the event they won.
As the kick is no good you can see him leaping into the air. Then there's a YouTube video of him in the locker room taking that invitation out of his pocket and reading it to the team as they all cheered.
Ole Miss hadn't been to a bowl game in like 10 years so it was an emotional moment.
That man was a lifelong Ole Miss fan, and my grandfather.
I got field passes to the Independence Bowl game in Shreveport. At halftime the Independence Bowl mascot was some sort of Eagle costume thing. Anyhow the mascot got so drunk he passed out under the bleachers.
They tried to get me to put on the outfit and be the mascot for the second half. But I was only 12 years old and it didn't fit. I couldn't hold the head up.
Anyhow, good times!
