Anyone Catch This Comment From Caddy?

I heard it live and am gonna have to paraphrase, but he said something like:
"These kids have learned that they won't be killed for every little mistake. We will coach them hard but love them too."
It was a shot at Harsin. I get the feeling Harsin was a very cold, aloof guy who probably made players feel like shite if they ever did anything wrong. That style of coaching might work with a roster full of 1st rounders, but it ain't gonna work on a mid to lower tier roster like AU has right now.

I heard it. Harsin is an idiot.

Told y'all from the beginning. Harsins two issues were that he was hard to get along with and that he did not like to recruit.
You just can't rule with the iron fist all the time. That is what Caddy was getting at.

Hey Lanier,
Heard Burt Reynolds tell a story once, later in life, that rings true. Said when he was younger he had this young sweetheart and married her. Said his father was sheriff of the small town, a real hard arse, and told him it was a mistake...for the girl, Burt was gonna screw up her life. He kept cattin around and they ended up divorced, and he had to move home. He said he so, so dreaded his father telling him I told you so.
He pulled up to the house, dad was on the front porch standing there, and he said dad you are right, you are right. Said his dad turned to walk to the back porch and said Burt, go to the fridge, grab a couple of beers and I tell you about my mistakes in life, he hesitated, turned round and said "better make it the whole six pack this could take quite a while".

I get it man. I do. And I appreciate that story. I have certainly made mine. It would take a case just to get started
But Auburn seemed to ignore what the word was on Harsin and they paid the price. Cost them 30-35 million for it and a depleted program.
They should have called me first.

Yep.
Life is a game and love is the prize.
Harsin was dividing the team and the staff. It’s evident when both players and staff are hauling arse out of there.

Oh Im agreeing with you Lanier, we made a big mistake but if we play this right, heck it might turn out pretty darn good. Least thats what I hope.
One thing is for certain, if we go for some of these "safe" hires some on here are talking about now, we will be curb stomped by rivals for the next decade, and they will probably do it with Kiffin or Prime.....

You walk a thin line between being disciplined, and destroying a young man's confidence. I feel like frick anybody who would do that to a young man, or woman.
I get it. These are grown arse men who are getting a full ride, as well as, (finally) getting paid; Of course, they don't need to be babied. However, you have to be careful you don't climb so far up their asses you end up living rent free in their heads..
Like I said, I never liked the Harsin hire.

You really need to go out and look at the videos of him speaking to his team. He really cares about his players and his team. He calls them out when needed and praises them also. a couple of samples below.

It’s the difference between “punishment” and “discipline”.
Punishment involves delivering severe action for mistakes. Punishment is necessary for severe actions like rape, murder, robbery, assault, etc.
on a team harsh punishment should be reserved for only the most severe acts.
Discipline is about creating conditions where a person who makes a mistake learns from it and grows, AND “Follows” the path the leader needs them too. There are consequences with discipline and punishment, but punishment does not care about the change or growth of the person. Discipline must be built into the culture such that all players eventually police themselves and develop a culture of self-discipline.
We have all seen the leaders who meted out severe punishments, and the ones who developed unit cohesion through discipline.
The coaches that understand the difference between punishment and discipline can turn boys into men.

Make one small mistake with Hars and you were gone. Coaches and players knew this. Leaders let folks make mistakes, shows them a path back and gives them a second chance.
