I like what Heupel has done at Tennessee but I don’t see him leaving there, he might entertain going to Auburn to get more money from Tennessee.

I dont feel like Kiffin would come. I would be surprised if he wanted to come to Auburn right now. He doesnt seem like the kind of guy who would want to be told what he could and cant do now that he has had some success. He has also seen the inner workings of the Alabama program where Saban does what he wants and how successful that is. He would probably be my first choice of the guys out there if they could convince him that he could come and that he would have control. I think that would be vital.

I have to admit the idea of Sanders is a huge risk. So much unknown after the dumpster fire we have had the past 2 years. We need a huge thing and he could be that or he could make us the laughing stock of the college football world. I am warming up to him as head coach as the days go by. He is not the kind of guy this conservative old man (as bowl Called me) would typically go for, but with this new age of college football, he could do well with Auburns support and financial backing. I would not be mad at this hire at all and I would certainly apologize for being concerned about him if things are run well.

Of the other guys out there, I just dont feel like any of them are home run hires. Freeze has been discussed to death and though I think he is a decent coach, He is not a far stretch from Malzahn that so many hated at the end.

I honestly do not know enough about Matt Rhule to comment on him. Aranda is a interesting hire. He has SEC workings but do we think he could excite recruits and be able to build back what Harsiin let go? This is where Prime or Lane could excel. Which is why I would put them both over Aranda. They could both recruit at a high level

I still feel like Auburn is going to pull a Auburn and hire someone we are not even talking about. History has scorn me.

Its called discussion ville. Nothing downing. There will be more to this selection for Auburn than just going out there and grabbing the next shiny thing on the shelf. If you dont see that, the conversation is useless

Lane would be a good choice. Auburn could give him a platform to do well. He is not just going to gather his toys and come to the plains without some assurances from Auburn

Prime is definitely the next shiny thing out there. Could be awesome. Could be tragic. That is why its a risk

They were ruthless yesterday, and it was a breath of fresh air. I hope they keep their foot on the gas through the HC hire. Can't imagine they follow all this up with Grimes or Lashlee. This feels different, hope we don't get fooled....again

You’ve been really down lately though. I understand being scorned, but I’m holding out hope that desperation for the boosters is at an all time high after dealing with years of mediocrity with Gus and Harsin. Then hopefully that’ll make them serious about getting the best guy they can find.

Definitely. But if Auburn hires Prime, I think it becomes a fan favorite at least (unless he has some problems we don't know about). Combine that with NIL money, and I don't see how we don't start pulling top classes.

You mean with our 3 win season?

I am not down but I am also a little older than you and totally understand that things are not easy. If you think Auburn is just going to go out there , drop a check and hire someone who will fix all the problems and we will be unicorns and rainbows, you are ONCE AGAIN going to be disappointed.

The hole we are in is big and its going to take some work to get out of. I think Sanders and Lane could be the best chances with what's available to do that. But once again, its not going to be a direct turnaround.

That's not negative, that is reality. You got disappointed with Harsin after you were so happy to get Mazahn gone. Im only saying to temper expectation with Auburn as they do not exactly have a history of doing the right thing and making things easy.

Either Lane or Prime could be a big splash hire that could get the recruiting going again. That is a big positive for both

You disappeared last season when things were looking well, and then reappeared to try and tell everyone I told you so about Gus. But the thing is, everyone is still glad Gus is gone.

And yes, I’m well aware of the past debacles at hiring head coaches. But I think Auburn’s program raising these mediocre coaches to higher levels was its own worst enemy. Harsin not having success might have woken the PTB up that they can’t afford to just hire the mediocre guys anymore and let the program do the rest. It’s time to pair a great coach with a great program.

What the hell does that have to do with anything. I was not around because I was extremely busy and did not have a ton of extra time. Plus the conversations here were nothing but arguments about shite that didn’t matter about anything. It was pointless.

You were so dead set on proving that you were right about Gus, when you basically were not, that you try to use me as some kind of scapegoat because I was a supporter of his. I agreed it was time for him to go but like always, I suggest caution. Which we did not take and look where we are now. You just are not bright enough to understand my point. So of course it’s always about Gus. Don’t be a dumb arse forever, try to understand peoples point instead of turning it into what you want it to be.

But once again, none of this has anything to do with the conversation that we were having about a new coach. I am not down on anyone, just discussing goods and bads of each possibility.

Basically, I was dead right about mediocre Gus. And he’s continued proving that by taking a step backwards at a smaller program that was on cruise control when he took it over.
