Kirk Herbstreit explains what gives the Tennessee Vols the edge over the Georgia Bulldogs
quote:
“At the moment, Kirk, how do you separate Georgia and Tennessee?” asked ESPN’s Rece Davis this week.
“Hendon Hooker [is] my answer,” said Herbstreit before a long pause. “That’s it. Hendon Hooker.”
“Josh Heupel and Tennessee’s offense man, Hendon Hooker right now is that guy,” continued Herbstreit. “Now I’m not saying he couldn’t sputter. But right now, based on these first eight weeks, I think if you’re looking at separating Tennessee from anybody, it’s the way they’ve outscored anybody that they’ve played. I know they could slip against Kentucky. They could lose obviously at Georgia. But right now, they are just dynamic on that side of the ball and it’s because of Hendon Hooker.”

Yeah and Alabama was supposed to beat us because of Bryce but look how that turned out

Tenn is very good but they won't get the same help at Ga that they got at home vs Bama..not just penalties either..Ga won't fall apart on defense the way Bama did

Keep telling yourself this and you might believe it one day.

Bama did beat Ga with Bryce..we lost the one that mattered but still..Bryce did win one of the two we played

Ok..maybe Ga will play like we did..is that better?

The advantage UGA has over UT is that they are scoring at a level comparable to UT (better against P5 opponents) and aren't reliant on a single position player to achieve those results.
That and they have a defense good enough so if the offense doesn't perform for some reason, they can still win without it.

Maybe... but Bama has been a high penalty team all season. UGA is in the top 20 in penalty yards this season.
I mean we could have a bad game for us penalty wise... but it would still likely be half of what Bama had.

You would think these two teams play each other this week. Be careful looking ahead thinking you can't be beat

I do believe it.
So do you if you're honest with yourself. You can take any player off of UGA's offense and it really doesn't matter.
We have 4 RB's with very little difference in performance.
Our WR's We've been without 2 of our 3 best guys most of the year and it hasn't slowed UGA's offense down much.
TE? Our 2nd TE is probably one of the 5 best TE's in the nation. Our 3rd and 4th are likely in the top 20.
OL? Plenty of depth (I'm not sure we've even figured out our best starting 5 because we have about 9 guys all playing very well.
QB? I have no concerns if Beck had to start or come in off the bench. He's been excellent in his snaps this year.
UGA's team is not dependent on a star player or two. It's more like the early Bama teams under Saban. QB didn't matter for them... they won on team talent.

I have no concern that Smart won't have the team ready for UF. He hates them nearly as much as Spurrier hated UGA.
But UF fans have been quiet so there's not much to respond to. UT fans have been directing their ire at UGA... so since they're mouthing off, they get the responses.

Hendon Hooker looked like the second coming of Joe Montana when they played Georgia last season. Definitely didn't struggle and look like shite at all.

Kirby probably will not make the same mistakes that Golding made. You have got to make Hooker try to beat you with his legs. Pressure, pressure, pressure. Pitt did a good job. They should have won that game even with the 2nd string QB.

UGA is more well coached on Defense and won't stay in man coverage and try to rush 4 against our OL.
They'll mix zone and some heavy blitzes to move Hooker around. Actually, KY will too. I fully expect the gameplans the next two weeks to be miles better than that slop Alabama came up with.
Bama tried to out Athlete us and it plain just didn't work. Kentucky and Georgia will actually gameplan.

What most have not realized, since no one other than GA fans have been watching their games of late, is that the time to get to UGA was a few weeks ago. With Jalen Carter being out, the DL young'uns have gotten the experience and figured out what to do. The running game has figured itself out. The young WRs, with Smith and Mitchell being out and McConkey being less than his best, have been doing far better the past couple of weeks after putting in the snaps and routes. All the TEs have gotten their feet wet at this point. Losing Dan Jackson for the year hurts depth, but at least the young DBs have been in a lot through the second halves. Dumas- Johnson has taken over the leadership of the LBers, and Smael Mondon, the fastest LBer, should be back this week. As someone mentioned above, the strength of this team is the depth of ability at just about every position. The way the schedule played out this year, the ability has been honed by experience. We will see going forward, but I think UGA is just going to get better from this point, especially with the players who have been out coming back.

Wait, is it some kind of rant alumni game? I didn't realize I should be training.

So you're saying if Jalin Hyatt and Bru McCoy go down, you've got a shot.

UGA probably has a better kicker. They may even have a guy that can somewhat cover Hyatt. We will need Tillman at 100% to beat UGA unlike Bama.

I don't have to like Tennessee to think Hendon Hooker has a great shot at the Heisman. I said this weeks ago and got downvoted. He's the best QB in the SEC imo
