For comparison sake we are 101st in opponents penalties. This means 100 teams have their opponents commit more penalties than us.

But I was told Bama gets all the calls.

I hope the players learn something from this

I honestly believe this myth has been perpetuated and perpetuated to the point where it people just accept it as fact. No data suggests this and even the fallback of the “timing of the penalties” doesn’t hold water.
I’m guessing refs have heard this and don’t want the label of being in our pocket, so they call the game much differently for us.
We’re for sure undisciplined, but we’ve been dealing with this different standard of calls for a few seasons now.

Alabama has never gotten the majority of judgement or subjective calls that have had a direct effect on the outcome. And I don't know of any SEC school in the top 10 who gets more penalties called on them at home than Bama.
We have some issues with false starts, but not much more than most teams. What bothers me is all of these subjective judgement calls like pass interference or holding being inconsistently called against Bama and not getting called hardly at all on our opponents.
Those kind of subjective penalties are not really about a lack of discipline or coaching deficiencies but no one ever brings up the subjectivity or lack of consistency when discussing recent Bama teams and penalties.

My thought on this is, because of Saban’s philosophy of “block out noise” or things you cannot control, he probably doesn’t complain about bad calls against us.
He probably figures we don’t control officiating, so forget about it and move on to the next play.
There is no other rationale for #31 not being held by any of our opponents.

I don’t see how we’re not last

We're so undisciplined, when we have a big play, I'm cautious about getting excited. Waiting for a yellow flag to wipe it out.
As it did on the end zone pick, that would have sealed another victory over the Vols.

The targeting on Bryce was the worst, at the very least, roughing the passer should have been called by the ref on the field. He was standing right there.

And I think that’s 100% correct and one reason why you’ll never see him publicly go after the refs in a PC.
That said, he has to start working the refs in-game. That’s just coaching 101. He was known for it before so I’m not sure it’s totally against his philosophy.

quote:I blame this in some small part to those LSU losers who bought Birmingham billboards over the years, complaining of officiating.
But I was told Bama gets all the calls.
I asked a gym-rat friend who worked for Mike Slive (now Sankey) -
Me: 'do you guys see those ads in the paper and the billboards, do you do anything?'
His response: 'Yeah, we see every one... but there is nothing we can do since it's funded by the fans'.
Me: 'yeah, not like any of those cajun LSU, boosters or coaching staff would be involved'
The 'we see every one' told me there was some amount of pressure though.

Well, the 7 games in the books don't bode well for learning.

People's over-the-top hatred of Bama leads them to do and say many things just trying to get something to stick. Eventually, it bleeds over into the refs ears. Just like it did Saturday. The refs were obviously caught up in the "Beat Bama" mentality.

i have to believe its SEC conspiracy .. they want different teams in SECCG

Even more frustrating as we are still in the hunt for the NC.

We won’t sniff the playoffs. This team isn’t going to Oxford and BR and winning. One of those will get us. We’re just an Uber talented, grossly sloppy and undisciplined football team. I really think LSU gets us. Good defense, improving offense, decent enough QB that can run.
