I've tried to marshall my thoughts on today and here's what I've got.

The offense is still elite in spite of O'Brian. We can score enough to beat any team in the country. Mainly because Bryce is a wizard.

The defense has issues 100%. But at the same time there have been 2 holding calls against opposing teams this season. I refuse to believe that our pass rush is being stone walled like they were today without getting mugged at the line.

If we play disciplined football we win this game by 10-14 points and yes our guys have to stop making dumb penalties. BUT if the refs call the 3+ times Bryce got hit in the head, the obvious Tennessee fumble on their last drive, or don't call the phantom PI on the pick we also win by 10-14.

We gotta be more disciplined but the refs also called one of the most biased game I've ever seen.

And last I know we've had 15 years of beating crappy Tennessee teams drilled into us. But some of y'all need to accept that they're a top 5 team this year. Losing to them sucks. I hate it. But it's a walk off loss on the road against a legitimately good team that we could have and probably should have won. It's not a bad loss. And I'd take us in a rematch 10 times out of 10.

I agree it wasn't a bad loss tbh. The game just sucked in a 100 different ways. This team is still capable of a lot. TN has the best offense in the nation.

This irritated me more than anything today.

They let the UT offensive line push their RBs 5-6 yards without blowing the whistle for forward momentum and they stop us from stripping the ball immediately after contact.

Look, I'm not trying to criticize here but I get a little tired of hearing "If we do this and if we do that, things are different. I mean, when are we gonna see that on the field? You can talk about it all day long but it just seems its kind of a trend when things like penalties and busts in coverage happen at a pretty high rate.

This is the critical point. We don’t play disciplined football anymore. It used to be a hallmark of Saban teams, but a clean game is the exception, not the rule. We get double digit penalties every single game. Untimely false starts, holds, tons of PI, something on every kick we try to return. It’s a fundamental problem, not a one-off.

Most of our greatest teams played sloppy early and lost a game. No big deal. Us only losing by one play despite having 17 penalties is honestly ridiculous and speaks to the quality this team has and their potential. Will they get it together late in the season like the previous teams? I don't know, but I do know that our issues are fixable.

Edit: and we have the greatest coach of all time to fix them.

Every time we get the ball first, refs call a penalty on the kickoff. Kills our momentum before we get started. We still have our issues but we'll be in Atlanta if we beat Ole Miss. Though Miss State has a great QB.

We've won 2 straight SEC championships, and played for a national title 6 of the last 9 years, so either the SEC sucks or Saban is not slipping.

This last paragraph is the only thing making me feel a smidge bit better right now. This is just not my world. Lol

Yes, we recovered that fumble and it would have sealed the game. Refs cost us this game from the opening kick, literally.

They did. If people want to complain about the defense and play calling that's absolutely fair. But the fact is that in spite of how bad the defense was and the stupid play calling at times we win this game if the refs call even a remotely fair game.

I understand the sentiment after tonight’s game, but a lot of that has to do with us. People who routinely break the law are more likely to be falsely accused of a crime than people who don’t. That same phenomenon holds for football teams with zero discipline.

Like I said in the game thread, it still takes miracles to beat Alabama.

We’ve been seeing the same crap from Golding’s defenses for 4 years. Maybe it gets better temporarily here and there, but the issues always show back up. I don’t know how anyone can be optimistic after that defensive performance today. MSU’s QB may light us up, Ole Miss probably will light us up, and Georgia or Tennessee will beat us in the SECCG if we somehow make it there.

We kept gave UT three scores today by getting out schemed the same way over and over again.

So what about all the late hits on Bryce, time after time with no call? How is that on any Bama player or coach? I don't really care for BOB or Golding but any one of those late hits could have made a huge impact.

Saban has Leach's number. They've scored 3 points against us since he took over. Ole Miss is good but they tend to take whole quarters off and they can't stop the run to save their lives. Gibbs could have 200+ against them. If we play Tennessee again I would take us because I doubt they get as many favorable calls in Atlanta. And UGA has looked very mortal at times this season.

It’s a good outlook, but let’s not forget the magic that happens with LSU and Auburn no matter how terrible they are.
