It's so weird that most of UGA's passes look like check downs, yet most of them still go for big yardage.

It’s the simple method of distributing the ball to better athletes. Close by or 7 yards always. Getting them in open space. Lack of deep threat will eventually bite them, same for us. My hope is Harrell and Earl will open it up for us.

Bryce is #2 in "time to throw" on throws > 20 yards downfield. So the issue is not protection.

Thank you! Too many people want to blame the issues on the Oline when they are not the problem. Interesting that Slovis has had more time but one of the only QBs that has a worse rating on throws over 20 yards.

There has to be some correlation there to the same thing Bryce seems to have issue with - holding it too long and forcing something when you should take 7-10 yds with your feet and move on.

I didn't realize we'd even attempted a pass 20+ yards down field.
WRs need to get their arses open. Bryce doesn't seem to trust his WRs...kinda the knock on Jalen back then was that he wouldn't let it fly unless the receiver was wide open by a mile. Whoever our WR coach is has too much talent to not be able to find a guy or two that can get some separation...and we haven't even played a ranked team yet.

So much Id like to say here, but im too tired to peck it all on this phone- couple quick points:
Our perimeter blocking has not been up to standard. Kendrick Law had some great blocks in last game to spring some plays, but a lot of yards left on the field due to poor perimeter blocking. How many times smith, jeudy, ruggs, waddle etc. Score after getting one good perimeter block. Those guys LOVED to block for eachother.
Bennett short passes going for big yards has to do with perimeter blocking, but also having a total freak/top 10 pick to get the ball to. (Contrary to this board beliefs day 1 guys make a difference)
B.Y. not getting the ball off is not due to his processor, but rather the WRs not creating space. How many coverage sacks have we had vs 2 scrub teams this year ? Our receivers being covered like a blanket for over 5 seconds by scrub DBs.
Texas in second half dropped a safety and DARED us to go over top and we didnt even attempt to go over.
I also think not only the drops but the fact that a seemingly disproportionate amount of the drops would have extended drives/3rd downs. Two critical ones vs texas come to mind and a third catchable ball turned int.

Excellent points people don’t want to acknowledge. Alabama had had at least one day one receiver in the lineup since 2008.

As much as I despise BOB playcalling, it’s time to admit Bryce is not having a good year at all. He seems to be playing to nonchalantly. There have been numerous times this year that him holding on to the all too long is causing our three and outs. He’s not taking the easy 5-7 yards on the ground to keep the defenses honest and that allows our young receivers to be bottled up. On top of that BOB route trees are too close together.

2011 is the only year since 08 that Bama didn't have an elite receiver.

Yep. That is IMO the main reason UGA has been so efficient. They are great at blocking on the outside.
It also helps that they've played horrible defenses, but still.

I actually believe that we are in good shape, as long as we are actively trying to fix our issues, which I have absolutely no reason to believe that we aren't. Obviously Saban sees the same thing everyone on here is seeing, and knows what needs to be fixed. We have the players. There doesn't seem to be any locker room bullshite so far this season. I'm excited to see where this season goes.
