Stoops was asked about his interest in the Nebraska job during his weekly radio show Monday night.

quote:

"It's been a great ride and we've had a lot of good coaches, a lot of good players," Stoops said. "He was the first one that had to open Pandora's box this year and start talking about another job [laughs]. I'm very content and very happy at the University of Kentucky. We have a lot more work to do here."

Coaches lie regularly but at least he's not saying "I won't discuss that" and has one foot out the door already

The first part of that quote would worry me a little bit. He didn’t exactly shut the door.

I could see him leaving for Iowa or a blueblood, not Nebraska.

Way he ends it seems to shut the door imo

Like I said coaches lie but generally they say "I won't comment on that" or whatever if they are interested in leaving

He will get paid. UK doesn’t want to lose him and more importantly he has built something that I’m not sure he wants to walk away from? Lexington is a sleeper city and great place to live. SEC East right now is also a great place to live if you are coach looking to win the division.

Some of the Husker rants from this week's Meltdown

This used to be amusing. But now it’s just gotten sad. It’s like watching the helpless animal get eaten on a nature show.

Our D is so bad, even Iowa could get a FG off us.

But, depending on how the pod system works and who they end with could be a different story and change everything. UK could be stuck with UF and UGA or Bama, AU & UT in a pod.

Maybe that makes a difference thinking long term sustainability.

Do you honestly think Nebraska is the first big school to reach out to him?

There’s a reason Brad White turned down that LSU DC job as well. They know what they have going in Lexington. He’s another guy that won’t leave for anything less than a step up at this point.

His comments are almost identical to what he said after the FSU interview when he was staying at Kentucky.

Something else folks aren’t considering is he’s pretty entrenched in recruiting that Ohio area and that’s how he’s made his bread and butter at Kentucky. Selling living in Ohio but playing in the SEC, close to home.

Ohio State or Michigan would I be worried? Yeah. Nebraska? No.

SEC East is the hardest division in CFB atm.

He would be a fool to leave but Nebraska also needs someone else. Someone who can recruit California, Florida and Texas at a top level because that is the only way Nebraska gets back on top.

Im not syaing he's leaving kentucky. Im saying your take on iowa being a better job and nebraska not being a blueblood is an absolute awful take on college football.

Like I said, you can tell kentucky is new to football.

Stoops would stupid to leave kentucky.

No, but as he continues to have more and more success at UK, his value has continued to increase. This will lead to bigger and bigger schools needing to throw more and more money at him to pry him away from UK.

I’m not saying he’ll leave, especially if UK is willing to give adequate counteroffers, I’m just saying UK’s success makes it increasingly difficult to hold on to him.

Again, may be he’s perfectly happy in Lexington and has no desire to go to a bigger name - see Patterson at TCU, Ferentz at Iowa, Fitzgerald at NW, Shaw at Stanford. They all had opportunities to go to higher profile gigs at various points in their careers but decided to stay put.

How else would you expect a coach to respond to coaching rumors in the middle of the season?
