About that possible safety in the Bama/Texas game. Why not....

Make any pass when being tackled or hit have pass the same test as if you are trying to get rid of the ball before being tackled or hit?
Outside tackle box:
If they are hitting QB, ball comes out but QB's hand is moving forward, ball still has to pass the LOS or be caught by eligible receiver behind LOS. Rewards the defense for getting pressure. Spot it as a sack.
Inside tackle box: All of the above, but ball must also have contact (tired of seeing it ruled in the vicinity of guys that aren't even aware the ball is being thrown to them because they were never an option on the drawn up play). This again rewards the defense for a good play and makes it harder for QB just to attempt to throw the ball away with no intention of completing a pass. Again, treat it as a sack.

The pass was tipped by UT player while on the path to a eligible receiver.

Nah he was down before he “passed”. Film doesn’t lie. This is classic (and obvious) misdirection. Game was tilted by refs. It happens. Move on.

Game was tilted by refs.
Alabama - 15 penalties for 100 yards that extended numerous UT offensive drives
Texas - 5 penalties for 30 yards that did.. what exactly?
Texas was gifted 3 points by penalties at the end of the first half and missed a short field goal. Instead of blaming the refs, maybe blame your own team for shitting the bed with every possible advantage given to them.

Ummm I dont believe you call it a tipped pass if the Bama qb deliberately throws it off the helmet of the Texas player or are you saying that to avoid an intentional grounding call all the qb has to do is throw the ball off a defensive players helmet or is that just a rule for bama qbs?

Yes, I think that will work. Do you think QBs should start trying that now?

With the way the officiating crew was calling even the slightest penalty in this game, it's amazing anyone believes they wouldn't have called it a safety immediately if any of them thought Bryce was actually down.

I think he was down when his wrist/elbow touched the ground.

He was down before he ever threw the ball. It’s over an cannot be changed but the amount of people talking about this stupid play and totally getting it wrong is astounding. No wonder the refs fricked it up too

Not that you’re right, but then it’s roughing the passer and an automatic first down
Pick your poison son
Also the refs hit us for 100 yards worth of penalties so whatever you gotta tell yourself to avoid admitting your team just couldn’t close

Since you're wrong about everything, it's official that he wasn't down then.

I have yet to see any film clip or still photo that shows anything of Young touching the ground on that play other than a foot or his hand. Feel free to post it if you have a clip you can freeze or a still shot.
Bryce Young was NOT down.
The throw was made while NOT down.
The throw was NOT grounding by rule because a) there was an eligible player in the area, and b) it was deflected by a Texas player.
NONE of this is particularly difficult to understand.
Was it a bang-bang close play? Yes. Did the officials initially get it wrong? Yes. But I think it is also important to recall that "safety" was not a call on the field. It was called by the announcer in the booth, not an official or referee.
