Over half the SEC makes bank with non conference games with long histories

B1G + PAC + B12 can go to 9 conference games because ...

#1 most of their teams suck
#2 they have almost ZERO long term OOC games
#3 playing Indiana is cheaper than playing Miami of Ohio

Do you think the SEC is dumb enough to go to 9 and risk losing

Georgia vs Clemson
Georgia vs Georgia Tech
Florida vs Florida State
Florida vs Miami
Kentucky vs Louisville
Vanderbilt vs Wake Forest
Vanderbilt vs Service Academies
South Carolina vs Clemson
South Carolina vs North Carolina
Auburn vs Clemson
Auburn vs Tulane (3 more wins and Auburn leads the series)
Alabama vs Penn State
Oklahoma vs Nebraska
Missouri vs Kansas
TAMU vs UTEP
Utx vs Kansas

Lots of old SIAA and SoCon ties to other current ACC vs SEC games

WAKE UP AMERICA!

So you would give up playing Clemson to play Vanderbilt?

Bet that would go over like a lead balloon with big $$ donors and staff trying to fill the stadium.

CFB revenue is split roughly 3 ways
1/3 from TV
1/3 from LIVE event
1/3 from donors

Donors pay huge for long term non conference games
Fans fill stadiums for high interest long term non conference games

2/3 > 1/3

I know math is hard for some but this is really simple math

10-game conference slate and two games against non-conference Power 5 (or whatever it boils down to) opponents. Whatever revenue is lost from not having a seventh or eighth home game will be more than made up for in television/streaming packages and being able to sell season tickets that don't involve matchups against Mercer and ETSU.

8 games makes more sense.

But people like to pick sides and enjoy being argumentative.

It is funny how these arguments over the past have played out.
Paying players
Transfers

It is as if things move too quickly without being completely thought out.
Maybe there were reasons for the rules in place at the time.

After the big ten deal the sec would be stupid to stay at 8
Non conf cupcake games will be chopped as well
Only a matter of time

Says who?

Why to you buy the non SEC talking heads telling us how to run our own conference?

B1G has 1 MNC team and PSU + UM + MSU. Easy for them to go to 9 or 10 conference games because they can beat up the other teams on the way to the B1G CFP rep

B12 is losing OU and Utx so they need ANYBODY to get to the CFP, they are really just a Gang of 5 conference now

PAC just lost their CFP school (and Trojans are as relevant now Tennessee is in football) so if they have a team with 2 losses they are in the CFP

Only the ACC and SEC have been relevant since the CFP started and will stay that way by not doing what the B1G, B12, and PAC are doing. If any of these 3 conferences were winning Natty's I would say look into it but why follow a losers path?

This is patently false. Maybe not in whatever conference UTEP is in but the sec schools are $60,000,000 a year so unless you are rocking $180,000,000 budget it is more than a third

I really don't know why people think the Big10 deal means anything.

Do you guys realize you are talking about a competition that doesn't actually exist and really has no bearing on things?

Yeah oh gosh the SEC wouldn’t wanna lose this rivalry against Kansas who Mizzou has played checks notes zero times since joining the SEC. I’m sure they’re horrified of the possibility. Can’t lose what’s already not there.

The 1/3 number was from an SEC AD pre covid and is a rough number as it is easy to do the math on. Many SEC schools were past the 200 Million number pre covid and with inflation my guess is many more close or past that threshold now.

Also keep in mind "donor dollars" may not be reflected in the athletic departments alone. as example, Joe Georgia (big football booster) drops 20 Million "donation" to A&S college for 8 season tickets for Georgia football. Joe Georgia is older and would be upset to see Georgia Tech and Clemson no longer on Georgia's CFB schedule.

Was it a high attendance game pre SEC?
Was it a historic rivalry game pre SEC?

It may not be played now, but at some point do you really believe it will not return?

The beauty of the SEC and ACC is they have real cross conference rivalries and many other games that fans and donors like to see (Like VOLS and Va Tech in Bristol) or UK vs several of the ACC schools.

Can't wait. The All SEC schedule in 2020 was awesome. The more big games, the better.

Says who, some blathering B1G blowhard?

You think UK is going to stop scheduling LoserVille?
SC stops scheduling the Taters or Tar Heels?
Auburn or Georgia stops scheduling the Taters?

You really think that will go over with fans and presidents?

9 game SEC means any good non conference game is suspect or toast as college football coaches want to keep their jobs
