Pretty wild story.

Hard to imagine what it was like for the cops rolling up on that camp only to find a 5 year old pointing a shotgun at them.

We are witnessing the downfall of this once great nation in real time.

At this point a nuclear war would probably be a good thing.

I found myself having to be more aware of the surroundings no matter where I’m at. I conceal carry always have, but I see more and more ppl open carry now. To me… they just made their self a target. No way I’m walking around like that.

Trust no one. Doesn't matter if it's an elderly woman holding a baby. Don't stop, call 911 if they need help. That's where we are as a society.

You’re already a target even if they don’t see your weapon.

I’d say it might make them think twice about screwing with you if they can see it.

Either way….just carry…and like others are saying, don’t stop anymore. Sucks that it has to be this way.

I hunt the same area where this happened. Camped in the National Forest many times with a large group of hunters. No way would I stay by myself there. The area we camped had one way in. Basically sitting ducks.

I have a bunch of family living near there. Uncle, and his 3 sons all live on the property, they have like 1200 acres that border the TNF in the foothills of Cheaha. I'm sure they are ready for anything. But still concerning that the men all leave every day for work and leave the women and children. Those in the encampment will be looking for a new area to settle down. They are near a tiny community, Ironton, that used to have a major iron mine. Backside-ish of Talladega/Munford.

I agree. Never underestimate the low IQ feral rabble among your fellow americans. Especially when they are in packs. Look no further than Rittenhouse or Jake Gardner or any of the other examples from the 2020 insurrections. These men thought showing their guns would intimidate and deter but it made them magnets for trouble instead.

Literally every generation has said the same thing, yet here we are, living more comfortably than we ever have.

We have too many people and most of them couldn't pass an eighth grade science test, but the sky isn't falling. Falling skies are great for ratings though.

It must be nice living with your head in the sand.

Here are a couple headlines from this last week:

Suspect released without bail after knockout punch leaves NYC stranger with cracked skull, critical

quote:

The NYPD had initially charged Van Phu with attempted murder, but the Bronx district attorney went with only an assault and harassment charge.

This violent sex offender was released from prison in 2020 and has been arrested at least 6 times since then.

Carjacking victims upset after Mayor Cantrell in court in support of attacker's family

This shite isn't normal and it certainly didn't fricking happen in previous generations.

When I was born, 42 long years ago... the murder rate was over 50% higher than today.

And?

Did the authorities take the sides of the criminals over the victims as well?

I am also 42 years old and this country has gotten significantly worse in the last 20 years.

How much did a house cost back then? $50,000? Or a gallon of gas or dozen eggs? 50 cents? Did both of your parents have to work full time to make ends meet back then?

Man! We’ve got it so good now! Woooo

The content related to the links is definitely wild, but to say that elected officials didn't support criminals over victims in previous generations is also wild as it clearly ignores the Jim Crow era and the related conditions across the country during that period.

I think it is all getting better. I also think that we have new challenges that we aren't responding well to, many of which most people can find common ground on, but am optimistic. Humans are fricking dumb, but we are simultaneously super smart and excel at adaptation.

Stephen Pinker put out a really good book, The Better Angels of Our Nature, and while it may now be a little outdated, it is basically a tome of evidence that human has consistently gotten better and that poverty, race relations, starvation, disease and crime have been steadily decreasing. Rough neighborhoods of today are statistically safer than nice neighborhoods in the 1700-1800s.

We'll get there.

There are more humans today, right now, that are in slavery than have ever been in bondage at any point in world history . By magnitudes

Everything you have ever said on a cellphone, in front of a smart tv, typed into your phone or online is on file next to your name. Waiting to be weaponized

The fatherless rate among black children in this country is around 75%. 35% of white children have divorced parents.

Is there really a need to address “disease” and “crime”

We have an obesity epidemic in this country where the poorest among us are the fattest

We are going backwards by any deceptive definition under the and in every category you listed

Dude, a hundred years ago you were lucky if your wife survived childbirth. This silly idea that society is falling apart is the product of whichever sensationalist "news" channel you watch.

You know I respect you as a poster, but I'm having trouble with this statement.

How are we getting better? Seriously.

We've regressed socially to the point that certain minorities want segregation.

Are you seeing what is happening in our major cities?

I'd like to share your opinion, but I just don't see it.

I don't watch any of the news channels. Our society is falling apart. Plain and simple.

You and I may not be affected by it on a daily basis because we don't live in places like San Francisco, Detroit, New York, Chicago, etc. but if we continue on this current path it will be like that everywhere.

You honestly think there isn't cause for concern?
