Just noticed the announcement that Walker Buehler, pitcher for the Dodgers, is undergoing elbow surgery and noticed a doctor’s name that I’d never heard of before.

From that, I noticed that Dr. James Andrews is now 80 years old. I’m assuming he’s still conducting surgeries? Surely he’ll be retiring soon. I wonder who Auburn will turn to for their next medical director and orthopedic surgeon.

I can’t find where he still holds a position at Alabama either relating to their athletics. I know he did previously.

Correct multiple world class surgeons work under the Andrew’s umbrella and his direction

My dad‘a an orthopedic surgeon, but he quit operating in his late 60s (72 now).
I’m certain he’s still sharp enough and has the stamina to do it, but it’s tiring too. His main reason for retiring from surgery though was because of the cost of malpractice insurance.

He doesn’t do very much anymore. He’s essentially a name within the world of surgeons now.

Right across the bridge from mine.

Had surgery there myself about 5 years ago. Top notch facility.

He basically consults and oversee's the real high value clients, he rarely if ever does any actual surgery anymore and hasn't for some time.

He’s basically retried now. Practices out of Pensacola on select athletes and still helps cover sporting events. He’s passing on the Auburn coverage to Dr Emblom at the birmingham Andrews location. He’s been doing most of the surgeries over the last couple years already. Dr Goodlet, who is local to Auburn also assists in helping cover and for certain surgeries.

I’d assume the office in Gulf Breeze has like 10 surgeons? Maybe more, IdK. It’s a huge facility. I know they do other things there also.

But I don’t think Dr Andrew’s has been the main surgeon for a long time. Or should I say, they’ve had many more surgeries done by other doctors then himself for a long time.

Which I believe is right next to EXOS which does training and helps with recovery for some folks. I know some special forces go there to get back into form after surgery and other issues.
