What he doesn’t realize is that AR-15 owners causally use “AR” as a shortened version of the term.
People say: “I’m gonna take my ‘AR’ out to the range this weekend.”
People don’t say: “I’m gonna take my ‘AR-15’ to the range this weekend.”
People say: “I’m gonna take my ‘AR’ out to the range this weekend.”
