They doing it to get Clempson and Fla State out of their rights penatly if they leave the conf early.
Right now, they can't get out without paying hundreds of millions. Upon renegotiation... Well... Hello SEC.

Because the ACC will collapse otherwise, and instead of controlling the rights for UNC, Duke, UVA, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, etc., they'll all be up for grabs.

What the hell. I got the complete opposite of these baylor dudes. The UNC guy is laying the groundwork to leave. They will claim that they in good faith tried to get more equal money with a better deal. When that falls through, UNC can say that they tried but now they have no choice but to leave or get left behind.
It’s not hard to look just a littttle deeper here boys.

Outside of the old man, the other two are horrible to listen to (especially the one that attempts to hide the fact that he's going bald with a hat every show).

The current contract is AWFUL!! There isn't a legal loophole in it at all and all the lawyers have gone over it up and down. It was designed specifically to keep the conference together (that's a good thing). But, the revenue payout is terrible and ACC schools are being left in the dust.

Does that mean SEC is about to add teams?

Because as things currently stand, it would be make more sense for ACC teams to pay the $50 million and collect the $100 plus million a year that the B1G will pay them when the B1G's new media deal happens soon.
ESPM is probably hoping extra money and a stronger GOR might stop this but it is inevitable.

I don’t think that’s how it would work.
If they made $100M next year all of it would go to the ACC who would split it up equally with the other schools regardless of where they played.
It was a crazy contract to sign and will be tough to exit unless enough teams leave that it’s no longer legally binding.

Like the younger guy asked "What is ESPN getting out of this since they helped the SEC with Tx./Ok."?

I have heard so many different takes about the ACC GOR that I am not sure what to believe but if that is true than no one would leave the ACC.
Still, why would ESPN renegotiate this soon if the GOR is so iron-clad? If this is not about teams possibly breaking the GOR, what is ESPN up to? They are up to something and it is whatever is best for them and not the ACC.

Sankey said no. I honestly hope we don't add more because shite will be ridiculous enough as-is once OKU and TU jr come to play

Yet, from what I'm gathering, the ACC is going along with it.

quote:That is pure speculation and a hopeful event. ESPN will not make more money on a new contract. They will lose money. They have them locked in and to ask providers for more money at this time ? It ain't happening. They would have to offset any more money by passing it on to the providers. The ACC is not that big of a draw outside a a handful of schools. Dobbs of CBS said they did an independent study and with the GOR and legal costs it would cost a team $500 million to get out of the ACC as of today....it's not happening guys. No new contract and no escape for the teams. Common sense should tell you that....
ACC/ESPN Renegotiating

ESPN wants to make sure the strong ACC Teams go to the SEC. They don't want Fox to get them like they got UCLA/USC. Then they let FOX pick from the ACC leftovers.

The schools that leave together will split the legal fees. Bet you $500 million the schools will not pay $500 million.

Not happening dude. Espn already has those teams. Why would they renegotiate to pay more? Lol

To keep from losing them to Fox.
