Auburn and Georgia
Assuming that's the answer in the 1-7 format then you arguably just line up the big six and Texas/Oklahoma accordingly:
Alabama/Tennessee
Georgia/Auburn
LSU/Florida
Oklahoma/Texas
Ole Miss/Mississippi State
A&M/Arkansas
Missouri/Kentucky
South Carolina/Vanderbilt

If this happens, the games will probably be:
Alabama-Auburn
Arkansas-Missouri
Florida-Georgia
Kentucky-South Carolina
LSU-Texas A&M
Ole Miss-Mississippi State
Oklahoma-Texas
Tennessee-Vanderbilt
That means the following will be out:
Georgia-Auburn
Alabama-Tennessee
LSU-Ole Miss
Texas-Texas A&M
That doesn’t even include very historically significant matchups like Georgia-South Carolina, Alabama-Mississippi State, Tennessee-Kentucky and Auburn-LSU that’ll be out the door as well.
You’re probably waving goodbye to at least 10 annual rivalries.

More than that. For LSU alone you lose the annual Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, and Ole Miss games. Depending on the permanent they also lose either Florida or A&M.

8 conference games is what made the SEC what it is today .....
Not surprised the ADs know that......
The 1-7 will be the norm, other games come out off the 4 optional slots if really wanted but may not be allowed to be in conference.....strictly OOC

Those were my years at LSU.
Every one of those games were on national TV (albeit, some on WTBS, the J-P of the day). Only the ND game and the tOSU games were not dictated to be day games by the SEC.
So, yes, that was part of the "college football association tv saga."

I am a fan of the 3-6 model, because it keeps some important rivalries around.
But, I understand the push for 1-7. SEC teams having 7-8 home games most years drives a lot of the funding of college athletics. All SEC teams play two rent-a-win home games a year (some play three and used to play 4). Those games are the lynchpin for funding those small schools. They also help the bottom line for the SEC schools. Going to a 9-game SEC schedule eliminates one of those guaranteed home games and replaces it with an SEC road game every other year. That affects the bottom line, whether we like it or not.
It's silly to think that money isn't the primary consideration in cases like this.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Auburn-LSU actually very rarely played before 1992. I think in the 30 years before that we only played them 5 times.

quote:IMO, this is Ross Dellinger pushing this narrative to keep the discussion going. Has Greg Byrne, Allen Greene, Scott Striclin, Danny White, Scott Woodward or any other AD told Dellinger what their "vote" is at this point?
I am not sure why some think LSU is squarely behind a 3-6 schedule. I was told by a TAF employee that Scott Woodward (LSUAD) has told no one what he thinks about this. Did I miss a quote from SW?

Surely the tv money for an extra sec game makes a big dent

I haven't seen any reports that networks will pay substantially more for 144 games than they will for 128 games.
Money wise an early game against a Michigan, Oregon, Florida State etc out of conference is more likely to be interesting for a national audience

I think your numbers are off.
16 teams with 9 conference games is only 120 kickoffs.
(8x9+16x3=120)
16 teams with 8 conference games is 128 kickoffs.
(8x8+16x4=128)
There is more inventory with the 8 game conference schedule.

There is more inventory under the SEC contract with 8 conference games, only because the 4th non-conference game is a "buy" game that would end up on ESPN+ under the new deal. A 9th conference game would provide higher quality inventory for TV and be worth more to ESPN. How much more? That's hard to say.

You're right. Dumb mistake
Setting that retard moment aside. The television compensation is often wildly overestimated as far as I can tell.
Networks being asked to make up the difference in home games for 16 teams may just not see the value. And for the major schools every home game is millions of dollars of revenue

If they just agreed to a 6 year complete home and away cycle instead of a 4 year cycle, it would make things sooo much easier.
In a 6 year cycle:
4 teams played every year. 3 times home and away.
2 teams played 4 times. 2 times home and a away.
9 teams played 2 times. 1 time home and away.

I hope not. But if we are doing the 1-7 then it is WLOCP or DSOR.
This is why the 1-7 sucks. You are throwing a lot of babies with some bathwater

Agree to disagree.
If your 2nd toughest OOC game is weak, that is on your AD. Not the conference. Not TV.
It isnt hard to get a more exciting game than A&M vs South carolina. At least it shouldnt be (pick an away stadium in the midwest, west coast, or north east that your fansbase would like to visit and start there)

These games should be scheduled no matter what plan is used.
