Saban’s real problem with NIL is that Alabama does not have the donor base to compete

The richest Alabama Alum who cares about football is the owner of Yellawood.

The rest are midtier.

When NIL fully develops (we’re just in the opening act) Bama will become the next Nebraska. The money just isn’t there, not in the concentrations it needs to be.

The new kings of the SEC will be Florida, Georgia, Texas, A&M, LSU, and probably Oklahoma. Alabama won’t be where it is today ever again.

That's exactly what it is. They know that their domination is coming to an end because of this. I mean, an average Bama fans has seen half a dozen nattys or more. That's enough. It's time for someone else.

You might want to check out Tennessee. They have more billionaires in the donor base than all of those schools.

Charles Ergen - founder Dish Network
Min Kao - co-founder Garmin
Haslam family - Pilot (Big Jim Haslam played on General Neyland's last NC team)
Alan Jones - Check Into Cash
Charlie Anderson - Books A Million and TNT Fireworks (former player)

If it’s about money it won’t be Georgia or LSU either, Arkansas and Tennessee have much bigger individual boosters BUT they meddle I both programs so it can be a curse. Then, you have Phil Knight at Oregon. Is there another team outside of the state of Texas in the SEC with potentially bigger backers than Direct TV/Sling, Pilot Oil/owner of the Browns, Walmart, Tyson Foods, or the owner of the Cowboys? Maybe but I am not sure who it would be

Tennessee isn't playing around with NIL this year either. Anyone get a gander at the $8M NIL deal offered to a QB recruit that isn't even in school yet? No, don't forget Tennessee

Which really has to chap Saban's arse

LSU will be fine. They are always going to keep the majority of LA talent. They will just not take much Texas talent anymore besides kids with ties to LA.

That is correct, unfortunately for Tennessee they meddle and rarely get on the same page. Arkansas is in the same boat but Walmart seems uninterested in NIL and Jones has meddled in the past. It will be interesting to see how it plays out

Yeppers

Walter, our top recruit said if it were only about money he would have been there. I’m glad Tennessee is stepping up their game. Need them to start winning some games against Bama.

Staying in state is one thing when large money isn’t involved but quite another if you are poor and offered 6 figures. But you never know, not everyone has a price tag

It has not been as bad since UT showed AD John Currie the door, and told Little Jimmy Haslam to sit down and STFU over their backdoor Greg Schiano deal.

True. Will take about 3-4 years to become apparent.

He isn’t wrong, you don’t have bigger individual boosters but that doesn’t mean everyone can be bought.

We will see who has the big money after the next depression and hyperinflation. What happens to TAM when oil runs out? School like Bama (assuming they don't have that $$$$) will need to develop a niche like Wisconsn and focus on where money it's the as big of a factor. Coaching, system, talent evaluation for under radar gymrats, etc. Get all of the instate high schools on the same page.

Educational endowments aren’t the same as athletic boosters and nearly every school with huge endowments care very little about athletics in general

No one would come out well in your scenario, especially not states near the bottom in per capita GDP.
