I think he should stay another year to improve, but the promise of money is hard to ignore.

Doesn't this make several players to announce leaving? What's up Coach?

Davison is leaving for the NBA…not sure how that’s an Oats problem. The only contributor that is transferring to another program is Gary. All the other transfers were end of the bench players who never saw meaningful minutes (or minutes period).

This feels like a mistake, but I think JD has probably been convinced for several years now that he was going to be a 1-and-done and that mindset is hard to overcome when it's become engrained within you. Best of luck to him.

I think he played hard and had a good attitude during his one year at Bama so respect to him. He definitely didn't play as well as I hoped he would as a true freshman but it is what it is.

I'm pulling for him. He is obviously a MAJOR project to be able to play in the NBA but I hope he pulls it off and makes a bunch of money.

Shoulda stayed another year like Kira Lewis, Woulda made bank with a higher draft choice. JMO. Thought the same with Primo, he ended up doing well for himself.

Agreed, but even with Gary his pt diminished towards the end of the season and we signed a juco 4, have Gurley returning, and are recruiting transfer 4's. Transfer makes perfect sense.

I think he should of too but I'm not in his shoes so I don't know his or his family's situation so hopefully he will shoot up the draft boards and get guaranteed money!

I would love to continue BUILDING our brand by sending another player or multiple players from our program to the draft in the first/second round. That would be very beneficial to our culture we are trying to build as well as recruiting.

Amen. JD absolutely played hard and never seemed to give in to frustration when he struggled. I hope he crushes it.

NBA Draft on potential. Personally, he needs another year, but He is most likely toggle between G league and sitting on bench for year or two. His game translate more into NBA level.. and I think he'll be a bench player for years to come.

If the NBA values turnovers and poor ball security, he should do quite well there.

Going to the NBA when he shouldn't have even been a college starter this season...but whatever.

I think he knew he was one and done before he stepped on campus, I will always respect this kid for playing hard and never letting distractions get to him.

Now as someone who follows the NBA, I think someone will take a chance on him but he has many flaws in his game. This is not a Josh Primo situation where you saw flashes of potential, with JD you basically saw an athlete trying to play pg, with also a terrible jump shot. I’m rooting for the young man but I’ll be shocked if plays any meaningful minutes the next couple of years.

Actually JD flashed plenty of potential on multiple occasions by showing he can affect a game in a variety of ways whether that was scoring, rebounding, or assisting.

Maybe JDs game will be better suited for the NBA level with a wider lane.

What position is he going to play? He can’t dribble and is careless with the ball. He ain’t a pure shooter and is not a fluid player, at all. He better learn to be a defensive stopper and rebounder if he wants to stick in the league long term. I think sixth man is his ceiling.

He's not close to ready. I hope I am wrong but he looked like a deer in the headlights out there.
