Hope Muss has these boys ready to play from first tip next season. We will have a target on our backs

The Vegas odds are much more impressive than any poll. I almost can't believe what I'm looking at.

Quite possibly but at least we’ve got 8 months or so to soak it up and be annoying about it.
It does feel weird tho to me. I’m still old school and a class of youngens needing to mesh/gel makes me apprehensive but Muss has proven to have some magic so

I love it. Will we rise up? Who knows. This sure beats the hell out of needing to make a run just to land a 9 seed.

We really need to pick up this Aimaq fella. We need some experienced meat in the middle.

It's a lot of pressure to put on a young team. I'm excited for next year!

When was the time a preseason number one won it all?

What is your qualifier? The AP poll? I don't think we will be number one in that poll but here is what is looks like the last 10 years.
2021: Gonzaga (#1 seed, Sweet 16)
2020: Gonzaga (#1 seed, NC loss)
2019: Michigan St (Projected 3 seed, no tournament)
2018: Kansas (#4 seed, Round of 32)
2017: Duke (#2 seed, Elite 8)
2016: Duke (#2 seed, Round of 32)
2015: North Carolina (#1 seed, NC loss)
2014: Kentucky (#1 seed, Final Four)
2013: Kentucky (#8 seed, NC loss)
2012: Indiana (#1 seed, Sweet 16)
Using this small sample size, you have a
50% chance of being a 1 seed
90% chance of being a 1-4 seed
44% chance of making the final four
But no #1 preseason ap poll team has won the National Championship in the last 10 years

The best thing about starting that high is it makes it more likely we keep a high seed in the tourney.

After being named preseason #1, our NET ranking probably dropped 10 spots.

This is what I believe the man takeaway should be, there is so much random/fluky stuff that happens in the tournament. You just want to make sure you put yourself in the best spot possible.

So another curse for AP?
I mean there is only one winner and so many teams that could be picked as the number 1, if there was some correlation to begin top 5 in the poll and not doing well I might believe something like that.
But I doubt we will be number 1 in that poll anyway.

have a feeling UCLA or Kentucky ends up as the pre-season #1 if Jaylin leaves anyway.

Exactly, if we play decent we should end up as a 3 or higher vs having to fight for a 4 seed this year

Am I the only one struggling with this? I mean, the attention and spotlight on our program is pretty cool. But I’m worried about the pressure a preseason top 5 would put on this young team. Maybe it’s just been too long since we’ve been relevant for me to relish this. I’ve grown accustomed to the underdog role. Those 90s teams had a swagger that made you embrace the hype. I’m just not there yet.
