The incoming class isn’t the issue, it’s the depth on the existing roster.

We signed other players instead of them.

I think we’ll be okay without them considering we signed three CB’s ranked higher than MGK and Starks who’s higher that Bouie but thanks for the concern.

With so may teams (like ours) playing more DB heavy formations I think having thin DB rooms will become the norm for just about everybody. It seems to have hurt Alabama last year at the end of the year.

Pretty interesting thought.

Back in the day, Saban ran a standard 3-4-4 with the occasional nickle (Star).

Now, especially under Golding, he's moved towards a 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 base, with the occasional dime (Money).

Thus, I think you're spot on regarding the importance of the secondary in his current system, which is part of the reason the Malachi Moore (Star) and Jalyn Armour-Davis (CB) injuries seemed to affect them so much last year at certain points.

With these modern passing offenses, there really has to be a ton of depth in that DB room, and those guys have to be adept at multiple positions within the secondary.

Even last year we had guys running wide open ghe entire game Hooker was playing with an injured throwing hand though

You're not wrong but now it's all on film for Kirby to see. However I will add that when Missouri had Drew Lock throwing dimes against us we always adjusted and shut it down eventually. Only Bama has been able to counter Kirby's adjustments and film work and they did it with NFL starting QBs + Heisman receivers.

This is the era of the hybird DB/LB. All those "udnersized LB's" of the past are gonna feast. You gotta have 2-3 kids who can cover and get their facemask into someone's chest.

Very true.

Kirby did a good job of exploiting this with their TE use this past season, especially in that drag area below the safeties (underneath zones).

Still can't believe Bryce put that ball where he did, when Holden (11) was behind the entire defense.

Georgia's staff did a good job of forcing some sort of hot route with what they were showing pre-snap—it clearly wasn't there, but he still stared it down the whole way.

Still not sure if it was an underthrow or an overthrow. And regarding 11 being behind the D- it's hard to tell because we don't see Ringo until the ball was in the air for a while.

But it don't matter!!

Starting safety Chris Smith is back. He missed alot of time last year due to nagging injuries so you didn't hear his name called alot, but he was the starter, and still is.

Ringo is back.

Dirty Dan Jackson (our white safety) is back and supposedly quicker in We Talkin' Bout Practice notes.

The starters will be fine, it's depth that could potentially be an issue.

But remember... going into last year, and through the early season, the narrative was that UGA's secondary was weak and shallow. They turned out ok.

Tykee smith is still out this spring. But he will be back as well.

Ameer Speed transferred to Michigan State (he was Ringo's backup at the end of the season). He wouldnt have transferred if he was going to win the corner spot opposite ringo (with Kendrick going to the NFL).

I agree that our starters should be fine. It is the depth where we will have to keep working the dawgs this spring and summer. But the recruiting has been there. We should be fine after the fall grind.

As Josh Pate would say... "spoken like a true casual"... maybe Tennessee and "casual football fan" are synonymous though.
