I think Briles is, smartly, playing the long game. He's got what could be a monster offense coming back next year and with the small horde of TEs we have coming a just as dangerous offense the year after that.

All while spending his time right next to Texas and recruiting heavily in there. I don't think it is a big secret he wants a head coaching gig, and preferably one in the Loony Star State, and as of right now... staying in Fayetteville is the best way to go about that.

Not to mention if Odom leaves for head coaching gig first Briles probably gets promoted to head coach in waiting and he evidently really loves Fayetteville.

With Odom the odometer (pardon that expression) is ticking. If he wants to be a head coach again he needs to strike out in a year or two. If he doesn't than he's likely in a sweet spot to spend the rest of his career. If Pittman retires before him he probably steps into the front runner spot to be Arkansas HC.

It is a good situation for both men to be in and for Briles, with his young family, its a perfect spot for right now.

Odom - $1.85 mil
Briles - $1.2 mil, 1.25 mil, 1.3 mil

Smith - $360K
Guiton - $340K
Loggins - $400K
Kennedy - $300K

Adams - $400K
Scherer - $325K
Bowman - $350K

Fountain - $515K

This is more like it.

Our assistant salary pool was $5.325 mil and jumps to $6.14 mil.

Still on a budget compared to our conference competitors and top teams in the nation but we can compete if they can continue recruiting.

Do you make a whole state happy when you have a good day? Is there constantly half the people calling for you to be fired on your slightest frick up?

I’m sure if a sport had to make money to continue and the big 3 didn’t have to support the rest, his pay would be at least double.

I don't want either of those to be our next HC...but Odom? Are people seriously considering this? He just failed at Missouri a few years ago. What on earth would have changed substantively enough to justify giving Odom the head position

I would not support that at all

Not much to elaborate, they said he keeps running the same system. Others are taking it and adapting it. They weren’t ready to shite on the 3-3-5 but it is turning not as special and he isn’t adapting to new schemes.

It seems like he doesn’t care about recruiting and all his assistants do the heavy lifting.

Who were these scheme experts you were listening to?

I don't buy he's running a same system and not tweaking it while others are reinventing the scheme. If we've seen anything he's adapted to the opponent game to game.

In Pittman's presser Thursday he mentioned how the defense played toward the end of the season and the bowl game as going more the way he wanted and talked about installing blitz packages the first few days of spring practice.

IMO Odom played the percentages with our personnel deficiencies like any smart coach should and with the opponents we face you must be able to try to limit the big play and force turnovers.

I get that, this is year 3 hopefully he starts playing some of the kids he recruited. He should have at least a decent base of his kids.

Yeah whoever said he isn’t adapting has no clue what they’re talking about. Odom is constantly scheming things up on D.

Do not want. Odom is an excellent DC. He is not an excellent coach. He doesn't have Sam's charisma. He gets opportunities at lower tier P5 schools like Mizzou and if he wants to be a HC again that's what he will have to take. I will rebel if we promote him when Sam retires. It's a punt at best.

Briles needs to go cut his teeth at a lower tier school before we hire him as HC too. Maybe if he stayed another 7 years or so it would be a decent hire but not in the next couple of years.

He doesn’t recruit. And if you ever want to be successful it requires a coach who wants to win the recruiting game.

Talking about what happens when Pittman retires is a waste of time. I give it at least 5 years before he even considers it, and in CFB terms that’s like 3 lifetimes.

I think he is here until we push him out, meaning he starts losing. He waited so damn long he doesn’t seem like the type to turn 67 and say well I am just going to draw my check.
