I looked over on a Rutgers board and they are lamenting the move. One guy said he was their best recruiter.

As a side note - how does Kirby know about these guys? I realize D1 college coaching is a very large fraternity.

I think 90% of the hire is based on recruiting prowess and his road map is feedback he gets from recruits.

He wants the defense run his way, same with xs and os.

There are good players from the Carlinas thru Boston but Pennsylvania even New Jersey still have quite a few.

At first site, the hire looks underwelming big time. Hope he can recruit his butt off, and develop as a coach like Scott. Recruiting and coaching DBs is BIG time important.

I would imagine ability to recruit is the number one quality CKS was looking for. Let’s face it, someone who really wants to coach a defensive backfield won’t come to UGA because they know they’ll be overshadowed and coaching behind Kirby and Muschamp.

I'm looking at this is kinda a Trae Scott situation where there will be a learning curve in coaching but will be loyal.

If Kirby and gang approve of him, I’m good.

I've never been comfier with Kirby's decision-making and coaching talent evaluation than this offseason.

No doubt. I've learned to stop second guessing CKS. He's had our team playing at a high level, consistently, for almost his entire tenure at UGA so far. If he likes these coaches, that's good enough for me.

Excellent recruiter, and spent two years under above average defensive coach Schiano.

Sounds like a solid hire.

Where the hell is this notion coming from that Tray Scott had a learning curve coaching?

He was amazing at UNC and nothing short of amazing at UGA.

Tray did not dominate at UNC. Who dominates at UNC? He couldn't recruit well at first when he got here. A few great DL left the state in his first few years here. I read all of you bitchin on here as well, calling for his head. This is a potential hire, and one that will be loyal to Kirby for years. I get why Kirby wants that. Young, motivated guy, not a hot commodity, can train him the way he wants him and the fact that he is coaching at UGA will help him recruit.

I'm trying to figure out where this guy is a great recruiter? Looked at Rutgers roster and the DBs didn't look that impressive. Also, most of his recruits are Northeast. He had a CB from Brooklyn. Give me Southeast recruits all day long, especially DBs. Nah, I don't see where you all see him as a recruiting champ???

He was known as a recruiting ace at Baylor, mostly, and has a good reputation generally.

No one is ever going to successfully recruit elite southern prospects to Rutgers. At a certain point, the logo on your shirt matters more than how good of a recruiter you are.

Kirby wouldn’t hire a DB coach without the ability to recruit at a high level.

If you ignore who made the hire, yes, but focus on who made the hire. Then post

bullshite. He hand delivered Jordan Davis in his first class. Also signed Devonte Wyatt in that first class.
Signed Travon Walker and Zion Logue in his second class.
Jalen Carter in his third class.

Stupid dawg fans always were griping about his predecessors when he had nothing to do with those classes or their lack of development.

In Scott's first season at UGA, our DL was good enough with subpar recruiting to get a Butkus award winner, win the SEC, and win the Rose Bowl.

I called those people idiots then too.

Tray did not dominate at UNC

He got Nazair Jones drafted in the 3rd round. And he helped improve the defense 14.5 ppg better at UNC versus the year prior. At UGA, we improved 7.6 in Scott's first year. You win in the trenches. That is exactly what we have done (and UNC) since he has been here.

This isnt revisionist history. There are just some dawg fans who were so down on our DL recruiting that they carried all of that ill will to Scott who didnt deserve any of it. He wasnt even hired until february 2017. And we have recruited and coached up great on the DL ever since.
