Did the PtB not know Harsin would be radically different?

I heard this morning Cubelic and McElroy talk about the coaching tree and philosophy that Harsin comes from. Chris Petersen and the “Boise” way was to find “OKGs” or “our kind of guys.” Recruiting was less about impressing the hottest, highest rated recruits and more so about finding guys that could be molded into competitive players that fit the culture and system. Some coaches take top rated guys no matter what because pipelines, hype, and character risks are worth taking the chance on top talent even if they don’t really fit. But the Petersen philosophy is to take the right guys and not worry about star ratings.
It seems like this was already known about Harsin. No one had a stellar report about his recruiting prowess at Boise. Certainly a search committee would know his philosophy on recruiting prior to coming to Auburn. It might help explain some of the recruiting “woes.” Harsin was recruiting the South differently than anyone else.
I’m not saying it’s a good plan to take such an approach, but it seems odd that anyone would be surprised by his different way of doing things. He skipped the Georgia shindig because for him, it’s not part of his recruiting plan.
If we hired him to do HIS thing, it seems reckless and foolish to fire him for doing what he was hired to do.
Maybe we just realized it’s such a risk that it’s worth cutting ties early. Or maybe Harsin is a total crook that was breaking laws and needs to be fired for cause.
But it’s definitely lunacy to hire this guy and not give him some time to accomplish his goals.

The "Boise Way" has not worked anywhere other then Boise.

We knew his style of recruiting was different, but the assumption was he would take those 3*/4* guys that are everywhere in AL/GA and develop them. Yet we were in Oregon, Louisiana, and losing out on Conference USA transfers. Everyone might disagree with how we got here, but Harsin has a ton of fault with his shitastic recruiting.

Chris P did nothing but maintain and then got them on probation. Dirk Koetter got them going.

18th in recruiting after year 1. Oh it’s horrible. Fire him now! What rank did he need to keep his job? Just curious

Well, now we may get the “Tennessee Way”.

Dirk got BSU off the ground. Dan Hawkins, CP, and Harsin all did well to maintain, but never won anything outside of BSU.

Petersen did get UW to a playoff appearance where they got smoked by Bama. But yeah, Hawkins bombed at CU HARD

Peterson recruited pretty well at Washington. He didn’t recruit that great at Boise.
Peterson never had any big time wins at Washington as well.
Boise way pretty much stinks

Boise never finished Top 10 until Petersen. He finished
2006 5
2007 NR
2008 11
2009 4
2010 9
2011 8
2012 18
2013 NR
Boise hasnt been ranked Top 10 ANY WEEK since Petersen left nine years ago. Petersen is a top five coach of the BCS ERA. He beat top teams with 2-3 star players.

Like I had said before Petersen got some run the first couple years at Washington in recruiting because he was a big name. He started falling off on recruiting and his last season he went 8-5 and left the roster bare for the next guy.

we should not forget he signed like 10 4 STAR players...
seems that that philosophy scales up well

Was this a PtB hire though? I think they were shut out and now they're not happy and rattling the cages.

Dang it Lanier, you prophetic genius! You spoke it into existence.

Does this mean we'll hire 2 Head Coaches, fire an AD, and then hire a 3rd, who is actually introduced as the HC?
