That's interesting.
I bet their are some kickers on the roster cussing right about now.
I wonder why he would come back? He was probably not going to get drafted, since he did not have a great senior season even before getting hurt.
Certainly he's not after his brothers stats?

I'll say this, and it may seen obvious:
- the snap has to be good,
- for the hold to be good,
- for the kick to be good.
I'm glad to have Carlson back, but there is work to be done for those things.

I’m pretty confident that he’s coming back because he just loves to play for Auburn

Josh Harris has played about 10 seasons in the NFL.
He is the best I can remember at Auburn.

I wonder whether or not Anders can beat out McPherson for the K1 job. I don’t think it’s a sure thing that he does, which makes me wonder why he’s coming back. His chances of getting an NFL job may be as good as his chances to retain his job at Auburn.

Surprising but great news

What seemed odd to me on kicks this year was the middle did not keep the push to a minimum.
It looked like at times, the process was a bit slow from snap, protect, hold, and kick.

I am not sure how surprising it is? He is a kicker who blew his knee out. There probably isn't a great market for those guys in the NFL. He had a shitty season on top of that.
What we need is a new ST coach.

I read on Twitter that he only needs 12 points to move to 2nd place in all time leading scorers behind his brother. That could be part of it. If he had stayed healthy he probably gets that this year.

He has a chance to get better and put himself in a better spot for the NFL. He has talent. Another year won’t hurt and I’m not that upset that McPherson will now likely redshirt
Kicking looks good again on the plains

I think this is the most “oh frick that” news we have gotten yet haha. Poor guy, loved his brother…… but he just ain’t it. Big misses this past year.

That’s really hard on a guy who’s had some big moments for us. Yes he struggled on medium kicks for some reason. Why compare to his brother? They’re not clones.
If he struggles again this year we have 2 very good FG kickers in McGuire and McPherson.
And it is a big transition from HS to college kicking.
Anders RS’d and it could help McPherson too.
Wonder if McGuire moves on?
He wasn’t on scholarship was he?

McGuire is a PWO.
I wonder if Anders maybe doesn’t have NFL aspirations and is using the extra year to get more flight hours for his aviation degree.

Lol, not going to have to worry about kicking many XPs. Maybe some FGs if we get turnovers in our opponents territory.

Figured we would move to the younger guy

Thanks, I wish I had; that was my dream. I played in college, but not there. The closest I came to kicking for Auburn is at a kicking camp. I did connect on a 52 yarder right in front of Coach Dye though.
But, you are spot on. The snap and the hold have to be on point for the kicker to be successful. In order to not get the kick blocked, the kick has to be away in 1.2 seconds. So, the timing has to be perfect. There can be no hesitation. Anything that affects this, from a slow or errant snap to a bobbled or misplaced hold can have an adverse effect on the kick.
And you’re right, all the crowd sees is the missed kick. But, when everything is in sync, it’s a thing of beauty to behold.
