The story of the playoffs is going to be who steps into John Metchie's shoes.

We lost a WR in the SEC Championship Game who racked up 1,100 receiving yards this season. His loss is going to be difficult to overcome I feel. Hopefully Brooks or Holden can become the players we know they have the ability to be because we are going to need them in these last two games.

Brooks is going to step in and perform. As the cliche goes he is no longer a freshman. I believe he will be fullyintegrated into the offense over the next month. My hope is we are able to get Billingsley and Latu back involved more heavily

The fact that Billingsley is not a major part of our offense already is shocking.

I agree and also the kid Holden has serious talent when you consider his size /speed ratio.
I dont know why he just cant be consistent and I am glade to see he still grinding.
last yr it was mention that he needed to focus more and just keep grinding and quit worrying about playing time as it will come.He gonna be needed and played well against UGA.

It will take a group effort. I'm intrigued to see how Earl looks after being out. Can he perform like earlier in the year ? Ditto with Brooks. I hope to see Leary involved more.

It will be a story...just be dependable...run good routes, be where you're supposed to be, catch it when given the opportunity....Metchie is a good receiver but he's not Uber special....he will be missed! But they can make up for him

They tried to make Billingsley a big part of the offense. He had 6 targets yesterday

He is extraordinarily special. Top 5 in the SEC. Dependable possession receiver who is a matchup problem for most teams. Plus, his leadership and chemistry can't be easily replaced.

I'm holding out hope that he makes it back

I think it's a case that there are players behind Metchie that are more talented but he is a veteran and earned his spot, so it was going to be hard to take him off the field as a starter.

But I think this is truly a case that this opportunity actually reveals that the guys stepping in are a step up in talent.

Although Metchie's experience is irreplaceable, but these young guys have a year or two under their belts and a month to practice.

Metchie is the best blocker on the team, and that is counting the TEs.

Metchie was Bryces security blanket. It was probably the third worst player we could possibly lose behind Bryce Young and Will Anderson.

I hate to be all blunt about it, but losing Metchie is a disaster.

Dude this is a bit much. Bryce is talented enough to find someone else to serve as an outlet over the next month, like Latu or Billingsley. Quite frankly if you want to be positive, this could help because there were a number of times this year Bryce locked in on Metchie and missed some open people if he would have kept going through his progression.

Exactly. It could help spread the ball around more to more options if anything. It will be a collective effort and that could prove to be a good thing.

It's not just Metchie... Its how we can be defended without one of our top 2. They are able to cheat over to Jamo side of the field.

Our offense stalled after Metch went out, and our offense stalled in the iron bowl after Jamo went out.

Maybe someone can step up, but whoever it is isn't going to replace Metch.

From an experience standpoint it hurts, but from a pure talent standpoint it may even be a step up, at the very least even.

Put it this way. Chris Allen was the starter due to his veteran status but went out with injury. But if he were to come back 100% healthy, Dallas Turner and Drew Sanders would still start over him because they took over the position.
It's a similar situation with Metchie.

No one was going to beat out Metchie due to his experience, but it's a far cry from a disaster.

The good thing, even the talented freshman WRs behind him are no longer freshman at this point with an additional 15 practices.

We've been so focused on Jamison and Metchie, I don't think we realized how deep and great we really are at receiver

Again that is more on Bryce. Brooks proved if you go to him he could win one on one in the Auburn game. Bryce just has to be willings to go to the other guys cause I think UGA game proves those guys can win against DBs.

And in 2020 Bryce got a lot of 2nd team reps with the WRs stepping in now, so the chemistry is there too.

Are you serious, Clark ?

Did you see Allen vs Miami before getting injured ? He was matching Anderson from the other side. Allen was a top three TFL guy in the SEC last year. Allen would 100% be starting if he were healthy.

Losing Metchie sucks but its not a disaster. We don't need Metchie to beat Cincy. Plenty of young guys to step up plus Latu and Bilingsley.
