Seriously, where are the playmakers?

We kind of discussed this before the season but do we have anyone on offense that can turn a short yardage play into an explosive play? Someone with a natural ability to turn nothing into something. I guess Milroe but he hasn’t really had a long run since the Arkansas game when their defense hadn’t prepared for him. Roydell? Our RBs are good but they aren’t difference makers.
We went 13 years with at least a handful of those guys on the roster and now it’s like the well went totally dry. Hell, we had to look to the transfer portal for Jameson and Gibbs. We have nobody like Waddle, Julio, Drake, Henry, Richardson, Ruggs, DeVonta, Ridley, Amari, etc.
What happened?

Bond
Niblack
Benson(?)
Haynes(?)
We just have to have someone to get them the ball and an OL to protect them.

Well last game we didn't have a QB to get the wideouts the ball so there's that.
And our oline sucks. Which is going to hamper offensive production across the board greatly.
Williams and McClellan are fine, but Miller and Haynes aren't getting any carries which might be for a good reason, but I don't understand it. They both seem better than the other 2. Haynes looked like our best offensive player in the spring game.

We have multiple guys on our offense who can do that but our last two offensive coordinators don’t call slants. Tommy Rees is not innovative enough to take advantage of our playmakers and it’s not his fault. He comes from a football culture where they don’t score and play wide open on offense as we do in the sec. Saban dropped the ball hiring him just as he did with O’Brien. Literally sucking the life out our offense from within.

because they aren't being rewarded for sticking it out like the old heads. Saturday was the first time I've seen our "power back" Roydell Williams break a tackle.
At some point you need to get your best runners the ball, there's a possibility that our best runners are Justice Haynes and Richard Young. Najee couldn't buy a touch in 2017 until everything was on the line, and then low and behold he was running all over Georgia in the natty.
The coaches can spare the blocking assignments excuse too, because Jase can't block worth a shite.

This is the unsung story of our problems at LT IMO.
Gibbs at 5’9 190lbs was better in pass pro last year than McClellan has been so far and that’s not a compliment to either guy.

Because a Tommy Rees offense seldom delivers explosive plays.
Fun fact: Alabama had more explosive plays in the 2020 season alone than Tommy Rees has had in four years as an OC...

I saw several explosive plays in the first two games, and several that were missed due to player error

But we've had multiple instances of Saban putting true freshmen RBs into the fire. I'd even say that the Najee situation was an outlier, and somewhat acceptable considering our run game was good pretty much the entire season in 2017. There were proven studs in front of him. 5 and 2 aren't proven studs.
That is was I don't understand.

Saturday was on another level bad, clearly.

We have, but not with two seniors on the depth chart. Ingram getting PT with Coffee still there is really the only one that comes to mind. Our really good backs are usually gone by after their junior season. So when those freshmen studs were playing, really they weren't taking touches from guys that had been there much longer than them. I think this is the only time in the Saban era that we have 2 senior running backs.
And to point out the obvious, Saban has changed over the years.

Jermaine Burton has been pretty damn good.
6 catches for 127 yards and 2 TDs through 3 games (21 yards per catch), and that doesn't count the 2 TDs he had wiped off the board against Texas due to penalties (32 yards, 15 yards), and the one Buchner missed on Saturday right off his finger tips (47 yards)
He could very easily have 9 catches for 221 yards and 5 TDs through 3 games.

Again, another transfer. I’m not dogging Burton because he’s definitely an asset…but he’s also not the type of guy who’s going to take a 2 yard pass and turn it into a 60 yard gain.

They’re there and open. The QBs all of them have failed to get the ball to them
