Our coach isn't living up to the standard and process he established and demanded.

This isn't one of those "Saban needs to go" threads.

It is however one of those pointing out the blindly obvious. He doesn't have the same expectations and it's clear to anyone watching.

Is he worried about the portal and NIL? Players leaving if he rides their arse like he did just a few years ago?

Is he worried about this generation's snowflake mentality?

Did grandkids make him soft?

Do we just suck that bad?

I don't know what it is but something is damn sure different.

Alabama has had top 3 recruiting classes for the last 10+ years. There's absolutely ZERO excuse for Bama to be in this position at QB and OL. Was the OL sandbagging yesterday in an effort to get Milroe back under center? I certainly hope that isn't the case and I don't think it is because they sucked in the first two games as well.

Personally, I think Saban is trying too hard to please everyone. I miss the headset throwing, snot slinging Saban that eats Reggie Ragland a new arse because he missed a defensive call when we're up by 35.

These players don't fear Saban and his wrath. That's clear. Bama also doesn't have an Alpha dog player on the sideline like Rolando, A'shawn, or Fluker that would get in a player's arse sideways if they screwed up.

The situation on this team goes a lot deeper than poor OL and QB play. It has a culture problem and the only way that gets fixed is if the person that created the standard once again holds his players to the standard.

It really is that simple.

At one point the consensus (fans, players, coaches) was that if someone didn't want to do it the Bama way they could hit the road. That's no longer the case. The Najee story illustrates that perfectly.

In the past, the team is reflected the fire of Saban. Saban no longer demonstrates that fire and neither does the team. We have great young men, but they need to have that attitude to dominate and win. We have an attitude problem.

Just look at coach prime... He gets on the field and talks with the players, teachers them, he's in the huddle, he's in the fight with them. Saban is not. He's simply a figure head on the sidelines like Paterno was toward the end.

I love Saban. He's the greatest. However, if he isn't reaching the standards that he himself set... Maybe he turns over the reins and takes on a figure head position in the athletics department.

For those saying Saban can stay as long as he wants... Are you prepared for how the team will look?

I said it last week and I’ll keep saying it - Saban needs to retire at the end of the year. He is a net negative to the program now. It’s getting to the point where he’s worse than having a random P5 coach out there. The team stinks. They don’t do anything well and they’re undisciplined. You can get that product from most coaches.

The transfer portal and NIL will push Saban to retire much quicker than losing.

I think he’s tired of his coaches being poached and may have made some less than stellar hires just to create “consistency “. And although he has benefited from the portal himself it has added a new factor to coaching college football that is very difficult to control or predict. Benching a kid now almost guarantees he hits the portal. And while we fans can say “GTFO” he must deal with the turbulence that comes along with it. Regardless of the facts surrounding the situation the optics and narrative can be spun in a negative light.

Yes, because I remember my first decade of being a bama fan... 97-06 I also have been repeatedly shown our AD makes some really bad hires, that have connections to the illustrious U of Arizona athletic department.

Then he should pay them a helluva lot more money.

Dan Enos had no prior connections to Arkansas. So why wasn't he offered 3x or 4x what Arkansas is paying him? We can certainly afford it. What we can't afford is what's happening now.

He makes too much but is a cheapskate when it comes to prized coordinators. Imagine Grubbs at oc and Jim Leonhard at dc.

I don’t disagree. I’m having trouble trying to wrap my head around some of the staff decisions and am at a loss.

Every human evolves if they work on themselves as they should throughout their lifetime. CNS has done a lot of work on himself and now probably looks back on his temper tantrums with some embarrassment. I know if there was a video archive of some of my more immature moments in life to be replayed on national TV I'd be a bit uncomfortable with that.

The man has the same standards, but he's not going to hold every person in the program hand any longer and force them to walk the walk- frankly he's too old for that.

Also, It's been a looooong time since ADay sold out, but he won a title three years ago and played for another two years ago so it was technically the fans that lost their fire before he did.

I'd also like to remind everyone about the "I would trade the football success for basketball success" threads that have been very common on this board the last few years.

I love what Saban has done for Alabama but I think he should have the grace to realize he’s lost his edge and bow out after this season.

The team wouldn't be that bad this season had he bothered hiring a competent OC.

I tried over emphasizing the importance of this OC hire given the dire QB situation and the nose dive the offense had taken the previous two seasons. This hire was critical and Saban botched it. I believe it was RBR who said the hiring of Rees could very well usher in the end of the dynasty and how prophetic that was.

I wish like hell he had hired Grubb but if the rumors are true (Grubb wanted to make major changes to the offense and Saban told him nah, fam) then it's clear Saban only chose Rees because he's a pussy arse yes man. No other logical explanation. But frick this little game. Fire that entire staff and swing for the fences. If they want to change the offense, let them goddamn do it ffs.

I was going to say, this may be a "careful what you wish for" moment for a lot of people on this board.

I heard a lot of similar things over the years. Saban was washed after the 2018 title game and then not making the playoffs the next season. Then he came back with one of the best teams he ever fielded in 2020. He was done after the A&M loss and close Iron Bowl win the next year. Blew out UGA and made the title game again.

I'm weirdly optimistic, and won't believe Saban is ready to hang it up until he does.
