Auburn likely didnt even prep for NMSU.

They worked on schemes for Alabama's defense and thought they could just show up and beat NMS. Kind of the same mindset some Bama players took into the Iron Bowl.

It's obvious Auburn used that week to prepare for Bama and bama only expecting to win vs NMSU. That team played with no passion vs NMSU.
NMSU was a well coached team and Kill did a great job of prep and motivation. Then it was a snowball in confidence with NMSU playing well. They kicked our asses in the trenches.

Auburn had 45 total plays against New Mexico State. They were penalized on 9 of those plays...
...of the remaining plays...Payton Thorne threw the ball 19 times and ran it 17 times (4 of those rushes were sacks...not sure how many others were busted pass plays). So, the QB either threw or ran for 36 plays...they had 9 rushes for someone other than Thorne.
Against Bama, Auburn had 59 plays. Of those, Thorne threw the ball 16 times and ran 15...t they had 28 rushes from someone other than Thorne.
Against Georgia, Auburn had 63 plays. Of those, Thorne threw the ball 19 times and ran 12. They had 31 rushes from someone other than Thorne.
