Florida QB situation couldn’t better illustrate players being bought by NIL

College ball has become nothing but,” play for pay” league. Don’t be surprised if Howard ends up here.

Rashada’s commitment to Florida was a bit of a shock as he originally joined Miami’s class last June. Many said an NIL deal with the Gators was at the root of the late flip, and now, those same NIL rumors appear to be the pairing’s demise. Message boards are saying that the reason for Jaden Rashada’s wanting out of his Letter of Intent is due to an NIL deal that never got done. They say an agreement was made, but now one side is not living up to its end of the bargain.

There's nothing regulating NIL. It is pay for play

can't blame him. I am sure that is what made him sign with UF.

Not sure if you needed that article to validate what many of us have known for a long time
The $4 million given to Quinn Ewers was 10,000% the reason he ended up at Texas
Texas simply outbid the others

Looks like a lawsuit for detrimental reliance.

1. It was a "pay for play" league before. NIL just legitimized it.
2. Why shouldn't a HS prospect maximize his market value? If a booster of a school is willing to give a guy 6-7 figures to play at that school why should the player turn it down? The conferences are bringing in nearly $1B per year in TV/media contracts. The schools are bringing in close to, if not over, $100M per year in ticket sales/revenues including licensing (LSU gets paid for use of their "NIL" on your "good" LSU Columbia fishing shirt). The HCs are earning 5, 6, 7, 10 Million per year. So why shouldn't the players, perhaps the most important part of the entertainment business, be privy to some of that revenue generated?
3. It sounds like Florida boosters may have promised him an amount to sign with Florida...only to fail to keep up their end of the bargain. If someone hired you away from your current job with the promise of a much bigger salary, only to then fail to provide it would you want to stick around?
Fans need to get over the farce that major college football is an "amateur sport". When the conferences, NCAA, and schools are, collectively bringing in BILLIONS of dollars in revenue it is an entertainment business...not all that unlike the NFL.

First off, playing college sports isn’t a job. Secondly, the players are already being well compensated with a scholarship, room, food and stipend.

Where is all this "pay for free" bullshite come from ? They get a FREE college education. Depending on what school, that's multiple thousands of dollars ! Free books, free housing, free meals, Plus MANY other perks for 5 years.

Seems to me that a major court case and the current paradigm disagree with your quaint antiquated view.

I’m sure my view are antiquated, because I’m antiquated.
As far as the courts saying a person should be paid for his/her NIL, it was never designed to be a mechanism to buy players.

"Well compensated" is relative.
Plus, while certainly a benefit, is a scholarship "compensation"? It's not consider "income" by the IRS (unless things have changed). In essense, all the school is saying is that a player doesn't have to pay for something other students have to pay for. The player is not actually receiving any income from the scholarship (or at least significant income). Housing, food, healthcare are ALL benefits. No one would argue against that. But again, that's not putting any revenue in the player's pockets. It's cost avoidance. Last year LSU brought in about $77 million in revenue. A large chunk of that attributable to football. That number is set to increase significantly with the new TV deal. Is the cost forbiddance of tuition, room/board, meals, plus the relatively small stipend "well compensated" relative to the amount of revenue generated by the program?

Honestly, the combo of NIL and transfer portal is going to push me away from the game. Making me a casual fan. I enjoy keeping up with recruits, and watching them grow into players.

Please let this happen. Beating Florida is easy enough now that sunbelt Billy is there but throw in a bad QB on top of it…. He’ll yes!!!
