We should never have deferred to the second half. Were we playing Bama? They kept the ball for what looks like forever on the first drive and it was just a snowball effect from then on. My biggest disappointment is that we did nothing coming out of the gate in the second half to change the outcome, neither coaches, nor players. Felt like the players were on a log ride down lazy river all game long.

Oh boo hoo hoo!

I bet Jerry Kill cries in his Wheaties (The Breakfast of Champions) every morning, bemoaning his difficulties in drawing top-level high school talent to Las Cruces, New Mexico to play football in Aggie Memorial Stadium (seating capacity 28,000).

Or… he doesn’t. He just gets to work and is able to “coach’em up” and draw out the best he can get out of his squad of 1 and 2-star players. You know… THE JOB THAT HE GETS PAID TO DO.

I get the coach ‘em up thing.

Remember we were still bringing in players post spring. So as a whole of the team they have had 15 practices to really work on technique without also working to stay fresh in game week and game prep.

I’m not making an excuse for losing. Just putting the facts out there. We can accept those facts or not. We got our asses kicked.

But will say our roster is on par with MSU Arkansas South Carolina…. Would anyone be shocked if either of those teams lost to a 9 win G5 team?

I actually wasn’t convinced 2* kids existed anymore before I went back to look at NMST’s recruiting classes

Nowadays recruiting sites are really reluctant to give those those out because none of them want to be cited if one of those kids make it to the NFL

You think the way to attack Cover 3 is to throw deep down the sideline?

Call up On3 and get them to do the coaching staff now.

They should be able to point out the creative play calling, the superior player development, the brilliant coaching adjustments, the multiple ways we attack the weaknesses of our opponents....

Corch is about to light your bitch arse up like Jboy did.

He is going to say "If you cannot tell me what doubles-flex-pinch-veer-OMAHA-on 3" means then you dont know football.

If they are poorly coached, disorganized, and poorly coordinated? No, I wouldn’t be surprised.

If they are well-coached, organized, and well-coordinated? Then, yes, I would be VERY surprised.

I know this may come as a surprise to some, but I don’t think Auburn plucked Freeze out of Liberty purgatory and decided to pay him near $7M per year to field poorly-coached, disorganized, poorly-coordinated football teams.

But you know what? What the frick do I know, right? Maybe we actually ARE now the Vanderbilt of the SEC West and should just shrug off losing to the likes of New Mexico State on PAT DYE FIELD at JORDAN-HARE STADIUM in AUBURN ALABAMA. Get used to the new normal, as it were.

Poor old millionaire Brother Hugh! He just has it SO HARD being highly paid to do a job that he wasn’t forced to take but freely accepted! Us yokel Auburn fans that actually expected him to DO HIS JOB WELL are just bring unreasonable!

The answer to both is sideline throws deep. We have zero WRs capable of making those plays. We tried a double move with MJJ Thorne tossed it up and MJJ didn’t even attempt to go get the ball. You gotta fight for that thing. Also breaking a tackle or 2 in the sit down routes in the zone would help as well
I noticed that play too... you're talking about the one where we wanted PI but it would have been a kinda ticky tack call? PT had time, delivered admittedly a pretty poor ball. WR didn't really adjust and fight for it?

I've noticed we seem to have blocking TE personnel on the outside which honestly doesn't make sense to me because I never catch myself saying "what a nice block"... we can't block on the outside at all.

I know throwing deep down the sideline is not a recipe for success against a Cover 3.

From an article about attacking cover 3... this is first "attack" mentioned...

As mentioned, with the seams being a vulnerable part of a cover 3 defense, 4 verticals is a common answer for offenses looking to push the ball downfield. With cushion from the CBs on the edge, receivers will often convert their go routes into a comeback route on the edge to become available for the QB. Most often, the QB will look off the FS with his eyes, controlling his movement before finding space to a WR over LB level.

Lastly, flood concepts are a way to stress the defense at all 3 levels, as overloading one side of the field stresses defenders in zone coverage. The sail concept is a great example of this, as the go route from the #1 WR clears the CB, as the QB proceeds to high-low the flat defender with an out-breaking sail route at 14-16 yards, and an eligible receiver stretching the flat to that same side.

Our offensive scheme is not the come back in most cases unless the slot is running a corner route behind but to throw the back shoulder if the defender is in phase or to throw deep if trailing.

After the Cal game Walker White called JLee and fellas. They asked about the rpo and he said it always works because you have an option they cant cover.....unless they start creeping down the safeties then its man on man. The way to fix that is....just what Corch said above, and unfortunately we dont have the receivers to do it.

So basically we need to counter their strategy by going long but cannot because we cannot do that well enough to keep honest. Hooks was hurt or something? What a disappointment he has been.

Probably too many balls hitting him in the chest.....

That is to funny because it’s true. Can’t leave out Cam Brown on that either. So we tried the comeback on the outside to Brown dude hasn’t caught one. Shorter never knew what route to run and Hooks no effort. I guess he is called Hollywood Hooks because he’s good acting like a WR.

The wild thing to me is how someone always seems to F up in our passing game. Feels like a circle of life.

Oline often allows pressure with 4 rushers... when they finally pick everyone up...
Thorne throws a bad ball... when he finally throws a good ball...
WR drops it or makes zero in-air adjustment... when they finally catch it...
Holding... when they aren't holding...
Oline allows pressure with 4... and on goes the circle.

Anyone notice one glaring thing missing from every comment from Hugh on this game?

GAME PLAN

Never mentioned and never referred to in the excuses. He always refers to his "Game Plan" Always ......

They may have had a minimal effort .....in making one ....

If the players commented on their over confidence .....you can bet the coaches read the same articles .....

This. 1000%. Scouting tells you that NMSU takes 43 seconds between snaps. They want to slow the game down. Oh, and by the way- they’re not some push over- yes we should have beaten them- but they’re playing for a CUSA title——so, No reason to give them the ball and let them suck all the energy out of the stadium and team.

Take the kick and score.
