Why is Shedrick Jackson our go to WR?

I really like Jackson as a blocking WR. I really like Jackson for his hustle. But he is not a great skilled WR.
So why are we going to him in the clutch?
He doesn't have great hands. He fell down trying to catch a great pass from Bo.
Other WRs would have the hands to catch that tipped sideline throw he bobbled going out of bounds.
He is not a great deep WR who I ever felt could catch contested balls with DBs.
I have heard he simply knows the plays better and that Canion and Capers do not, who are better skilled at the WR position.
I just think down the road someone else has to be the core of our WR group...

The entire group is just not very good. They aren't horrible, but none of them are giving any defensive coordinator fits trying to prepare for them. We can all dog Seth for his attitude (and I agree it was shitty) but we are seriously missing him out there this year. Schwartz as well with his ability to take the top off.
I really thought Canion, Capers, and Hudson were going to develop into solid players when they came in. On paper, that is a solid group. They just have not progressed at all for whatever reason.
Then after the first two games I was pretty excited about D. Robertson. He was a non-factor against Penn St.
Bo Nix is what he is at this point and hasn't really done these guys a whole lot of favors either. Outside of getting in SEC caliber linemen, bringing in a legit game changer WR should be the highest priority for this staff. If we had any threat of a home run guy, this offense could be very dynamic when combined with the RBs. We just don't have it though.

Totally agree. At the very least, he is being used incorrectly. From the few skills outside of blocking he seems to possess, he seems like a guy that should be running shallow crossers and 7 yard stops. Yet it seems like he is our go to guy downfield? What’s up with that

Receiver was a group that I think we all knew would go through growing pains this season. We lost 3 experienced and productive guys from the 2020 squad and we’ve got young guys now that have some talent on paper but haven’t proved it in a game or this system.
I like Capers and Canion but their inability to get on the field much says something about how they perform outside of Saturday.
Kobe Hudson looks promising. He’s not there yet but he shows some ability. We gotta get him out of that #5 jersey

The other ones have Trex arms and wash their hands with grease.

We haven't had an efficient passing game since 2013. Hard to recruit talent when you don't pass.

JJ, Dawson, and Malcom Johnson? Where were they Saterday?

JJ had a big 3rd down reception, but I am assuming was still limited with some injury. Malcom Johnson had the best catch of the night imo, across the middle while being hit by 2 guys, to get us down to the 30 yard line and set up our final play of the night.
I think it's time we start playing more of the other receivers though. We need to see who can step up and make big catches in actual games.

JJ had been hurt. Dawson was either hurt or had Covid earlier and he is a true FR.
Malcolm Johnson...don't know but it sounds like he as Canion and Capers don't know the playbook well enough..(as some who seem to know have said).
So, coaches are probably putting the WRs in that at least know where to go...and can read the D when lining up, and with options now that Bo is giving in the passing game, coaches are set for now to give Bo the best chances.
Problem is..Bo is not your best at accuracy..as shown by 2 passes down the left and right sidelines that he couldn't get to Robertson. Both were TDs if Bo lays it in there.
That's the differnce in the game...not as much as the 4th down play, even though I didn't like the low percentage call.

I think this is what is happening. Harsin even made a comment in the preseason about how the mental part of the game, and knowing where to be was more important than the physical skills when it came to playing time. I think if some of these other guys can get more comfortable with the playbook they will start to get more playing time.

I believe Harsin said after the game that the play call was not a corner fade. The play call was a pass play they have worked on in goal line situations with 4 or 5 options. Bo for some reason decided to immediately throw the fade (the only thing I can think is that he saw bump coverage and thought he could get a PI- he immediately ran to the ref begging for it), but that was not the only read on that play.

With Seth, we win by a touchdown.

Why is Shedrick Jackson on the field is a better question.

Just bc Harsin says they had 4-5 options doesn't mean that the corner fade was not the initial play call based on reads. And there is no way any QB thinks they can get PI on a play. Bo had no clue how it would go. Unless a QB sees a match up that he knows favors the call ,then no way in this situation at the 2 does he know he can get PI.

He dropped a wide open touchdown the Alabama State game, so I’m not sure about that.

Did not recall that. I just remembered seeing he was doing well in practice or something.

Never heard that Cam's brother was a good WR.
He changed positions so he is totally green and in a learning mode, and add in Harsin's playbook, it really could be tough for him to get many snaps...
