Why Hugh Freeze failed at Auburn

1. Hiring his buddies for offensive positions that obviously don’t know how to coach
2. Somehow thought Thorne and Arnold were good QBs

Yep. My wife’s dad is hunting buddies with him and we heard all of this a few years ago. He actually took Sylvester Smith hunting last year and he killed a massive 12pt. Shot him dead between the eyes lol

So we had two awful hirings in a row. Two guys who had better things to do in the fall than effectively run a Power Four football program.

I just don’t understand how this happens at a multi-million dollar revenue athletics department once, let alone twice in a row.

How are the expectations for the coaches not explicitly written in the contracts?

He didn’t put in the time that a head coach especially one with control of offense and playcalling responsibilities should have. Golf was more important. He thought recruiting 4 and 5 star players would get it done automatically. Beyond lazy. I would think these eye opening revelations are in violation of the contract and can be used to lesson the buyout.

He was so close to turning the corner

Between the 9th and 10th hole.

Caddy was the only one retained through that change, right? Maybe they reached out to him for his opinion

C-Rob was kept on for a little while when Freeze was fired. He is now with Bama, so it could be him

Yes. You have to eat, sleep, and breathe football if you're going to be successful in the SEC. Especially when you're a shite hire with a past, and this will certainly be your last big time stop.

We had some bad players on the OL. But a good coach wouldn't let them get 120 yards in penalties to lose a game. There are tons of things you can point to details wise that made it very obvious Hugh wasn't putting in the hours.

Then you have the golf and the drinking. Every Auburn coach other than Gus has done a ton of that. Not a deal killer. But you can't be repeatedly seen out in public doing either when your side of the ball is awful on Saturdays.

If a coach runs a program so well he has the free time to golf, swing away.

When the coach is paid millions can't run an offense and isn't showing up to game prep meetings as O playcaller, isn't making relationships w players or boosters and isn't taking accountability?

All the elite coaches w sustained success seem to be process and detail oriented who worked extreme hours. It's hard to imagine those guys having a free 15-20 hours per week togolf

In recent months, Senator Tommy Tuberville, a former Auburn head coach, has told a story to Auburn supporters that he had tried to convince Freeze to go after New Mexico State transfer Diego Pavia

Uh huh. Sure.

Freeze is a golf addict.

I know bc I’m a golf addict.

I’ve recorded a 9 or 18 hole score over 200 times this year and I’ve practiced and I’ve played in scrambles and non-record rounds.

Hugh posted 10, 18 hole scores in June. That’s not normal for people who are not addicted to golf.

He’s been playing all along. IF we were 9-0 or even 7-2/6-3 and had a functioning offense, I would not care, but he’s devoting time to golf that should be consumed by film, recruiting, adjustments, etc.

Cohen absolutely knows Hugh was stealing money and made it sound as if the hang up on the buyout is going to last quite a while in his presser today

Not only that but he DGAF and never has once he got here

All lip service and lies

Even made up lies about what players have said

His mask was lifted

There is absolutely nothing behind it

Reporters have said 3 words kept popping up to describe him (even by players that said they really never knew him).

Lazy
Fraudulent
Vindictive

Straight up Stole money from Auburn

Conveniently, all the reporters waited until it no longer mattered to report these bombshells.

You come out with these stories and the coach will have you shut out. Then you can’t do your job. This is normal. You find out stuff after a firing.

Here’s a good one I heard this morning, can’t remember who said it. Apparently at the end of the 23 Iron Bowl, Roberts had a blitz called. Freeze overruled him and we know what happened.

On the golf, yes it matters when you aren’t at the offense meetings because you’re playing then want to get in calling plays not knowing formations and things may have been changed. See the 4th down fubar against uga 2 years ago with Thorne. And Freeze threw Thorne under the bus when him off golfing was the fault.

Someone quoted he was the only coach during SEC Media Day bellied up to the bar with the media.

Makes since with his droopy eyes and redden face of an alcoholic (allegedly)
