I'll come get you.
Goodman of Al.com is saying Sumrall is the obvious best candidate for Auburn.
Anybody but Sumrall at this point.

He’s got a lot of folks singing his praises. You’ll be very excited about him in about 4-6 weeks

A lot of the wrong people.

I think Sumrall is a winner. The guy is electric on the sidelines. He kills every interview I watch. He's won everywhere he's been, so far.

Would depend on the offensive coordinator (really that's all that matter here, in the whole search).
No thanks to the non surprising names mentioned.
Like Josh Pate says - one would be shocked shocked at the stupidity behind the scenes (at any program, and not John Cohen).

Yea, my man. You can’t deny Brohm’s lackluster record. You’re “hopeful” he will do better than 8-4 at Auburn, based on various factors, but his record says he’s an 8-4 coach. Same with Sumrall. We’re “hoping” he can be a P4 coach, but there’s no data yet.
To me, that’s the biggest difference - there is no data on Sumrall at the P4 level. There is data on Brohm, and it’s mid. And there’s no arguing either of those points. They’re just facts.
If you want to say, “all the more reason we should break the bank to get Dillingham or another proven P4 coach” I can’t argue with that.

Goodman isn't even worth mentioning. I see better writing on this board every day than I do in his columns.

Brohm has beat 5 top ten teams. He reminds me of Tuberville. Sure he will lose somes but we haven't seen 8 wins since 2019.
That is not the worst. Cant just poke your nose in the air pretending 8-4 is beneath us.

That is what bothers me the most about ending up with Summral. We will never know if Cohen even truly went hard after Kiffin, Dilly, Lanning, Freeman, etc. If he did then so be it...
To be fair here though, this can be said if we end up with Brohm, Golesh, or Key as well. Even if we end up with Dilly I'd say it is reasonable to say we don't know if we went hard after Kiffin, Lanning, or Freeman.
Personally I don't think Freeman or Lanning are realistic options. Not to say that there isn't a number that they would consider it, but I don't think that number is a reality at this point. I would love either of them, don't get me wrong. I just don't think other than wishful thinking, there is really that much of an opportunity for it to even happen.
Dilly and Kiffin are realistic, Dilly more than Kiffin just due to the bidding war that is Kiffin right now. I know we did interview Dilly. Lea apparently interviewed fantastically as well.

Exactly what would you want the record to be at Purdue and Louisville?

I’m certainly not saying he is the worst coach. To the contrary, I’m confident he’d consistently go 8-4-ish at Auburn . Probably win a few big games. I don’t think he win any championships, based on his record to date.
So did we fire Gus for consistently going 8-4 to suffer 2 years of shite under Harsin and 3 years of shite under Freeze to hire a coach who will consistently go 8-4? Is that what this has been about?
I feel like Sumrall gives us a better chance at a coach who will win championships. He might turn out to be the worst coach we’ve ever hired. He might be 100x worse than Brohm would ever be. But I’d rather take a chance than settle on likely mediocrity (even though we’re admittedly looking up at mediocrity right now).
That’s just how I see it.

I can't get excited for another one that we hope works out, feels like we went that cheap route again.
I think this sentiment is why Auburn can’t afford to go this route again. If you can’t bring in a guy that excites and unites your fanbase, you’re dead in the water as a program. Half of us are saying not this shite again and the other half are saying he’s the guy. To complicate matters further Sumrall’s biggest supporters here don’t even seem excited about the guy. There’s no frick yeahs, no trolling the rant, no shite talking or dancing bananas. You’re simply resigned to the fact that this is the best the program can do and you’re hoping and praying he can hang onto some of the bums from the last staff.. if you want to see what a fanbase that is excited and energized looks like, take a peak at the lunatics on the coaching changes board. That is program excitement, not this bullshite exercise in futility where our AD gins up the most underwhelming coaching search in school history. There’s simply no buzz around this search.

What are you even talking about? He is on pace for his third straight 9+ win season at Louisville, and he was at 8/9 wins in his final two seasons at Purdue as well which basically translates to 10+ wins at any legitimate football school (Purdue is a dogshit football program: 9 wins there is basically unheard of).
Where are you getting "8-4" coach from? Let me guess, you are tacking on his early Purdue seasons where he was still rebuilding and getting some sort of stupid average to try to prove your false point?
Brohm is a very good coach who has over-exceeded the realistic normal expectations at every program he has been at. This is how you actually get an idea of who is doing a good job. He also has a freakishly good record against highly ranked teams despite the fact that he has coached at programs that can not field anywhere near the talent that the teams he has beaten have fielded.

Now imagine Tubs in the NIL world where he could duck hunt and have 5* bought for him. Brohm has snagged a few top recruits here and there, so you know he can recruit. It’s just hard as hell to convince kids to go to Purdue and Louisville.
