From Reddit. Sorry for the formatting. TIFWIW.

I, and a number of people I am close with, work within Administrative and Athletic offices at the University, and this is the message going around. I have texts and screenshots, to prove this to be the case, but did not want to share as it would provide no greater information than what I am sharing below: Sumrall signed an agreement (not a contract) to become the next head coach. The deadline for this is to believed to be this Sunday evening. The agreement has/had a monetary bonus (assumed sign-on and/or support staff salary bonus) in the event a formal contract is signed before the end of the agreement This bonus incrementally decreases as more time passes to sign a formal contract As mentioned, this agreement is believed to expire Sunday evening, so there will more than likely be no penalty (if penalties are present on the agreement). If Florida or another team hire him after Sunday, he will be fine penalty-wise. RIGHT NOW, internal belief is that Sumrall is indeed going to be the next head coach. There is no formal "back-up" plan for a potential candidate. Current scheduling includes the following Sumrall will brief his team Sunday morning Formal marketing statement from AU will occur on Sunday morning, shortly after he informs Tulane leadership A press conference is expected to occur Sunday evening. This gives Sumrall and co. the ability to prepare for the AAC Championship Game, which takes place on Friday, December 5, with minimal schedule and travel disruptions. Sumrall will be able to coach Tulane in the AAC Championship game The contact period for recruiting opens on December 5, 2025. Dead period (no contact with recruits) is from December 22, 2025 to January 4, 2026. If Tulane were to be selected for CFP and he stayed until the first round, he would miss almost the entirety of this contact period to recruit at AU. With this, Sumrall is not expected to coach Tulane in the CFP, should they be selected.

If we miss on Sumrall I certainly hope so. Because the alternative is that we turn around and hire Durkin, which would be terrible.
But hopefully this Florida smoke amounts to nothing and we hire Sumrall this weekend.

The key is that was an agreement that ends Sunday evening.
True or not?

Cohen completely bungled this, but the schedule also forced his hand.
Sumrall signed an MOU Wednesday night.
From my understanding Cohen then went ahead and offered Durkin AHC and DC with a raise.
Sumrall wanted the opportunity to Interview candidates for dc, but he was likely going to retain DJD anyway. Cohen basically took that option from him though.
Cohen wholeheartedly believes there would be a mass exodus of players if Durkin was not retained. (I tend to agree) Sumrall was at least going to stay on board with Tulane through the conference Championship so we needed someone here to hold the team together/meet with recruits etc.
Florida also is going to outbid us on Sumrall. They’re more desperate for a hire than us because we have the failsafe in DJD.
Believe Auburn was somewhere between 6-8 mill a year with incentives and Florida will be between 8-10 base for him.
I was very very high on Sumrall, but I think we could do worse than DJ.

I wish we would pivot to one of the remaining winning G6 coaches out there (Troy Taylor, Ryan Silverfield, Alex Golesh, Bob Chesney, etc.). Even if it delays the hire a week. As long as we keep Durkin as DC we should be able to hold the roster and signing class together as well as we could with a new hire on Sunday.
