I don’t think we’re talking about that situation here. I don’t think Redmond was being paid by a grant from an outside source that he secured himself.
Well we're talking about a person's research, their intellectual property and who owns it.

Agree .... there is selective base talent to build around in the offseason. Our D has been good enough the last 5 years that we would be a much better program with average offensive production ..... maybe 4-5 games better
When I think about all of the opportunities our O wasted by going 3-and-out so frequently, I wonder how our D was able to stand it .... never being rested .... never being able to catch up. Brutal.

That's not how working for a university works. They own everything you create.

That doesn’t add up. If AU was paying Redmond to compile the info then it belongs to AU.
That's not how it works.
By that logic........every coach, a school employs, has to leave their playbook when they are fired.

and get semi-black balled by the coaching fraternity and agents. There's a difference.

How is that comparable? Redmond was a football operations staff member and part of his job would have been compiling this data on behalf of the Auburn AD. The one thing to point out here is that he wasn't doing this by himself, so its not like this is proprietary data. He would have had subordinates under him assisting in evaluations, on top of actual members of the coaching staff who would have had to have been involved as well (otherwise how does Redmond know that the players that are on his board actually fit the team schematically?). For this reason, I can't see any scenario where the data is deemed to be owned by him alone.
Pretend that Freeze's staff was never fired and they just chose to fire Redmond and replace him with someone else: does he now take all of the data with him, even though everyone who worked with him to compile said data is still employed by Auburn? That doesn't make any sense to me.
This guy isn't a research scientist or inventor. His list of transfer portal targets can't be argued as intellectual property that belongs to him.
As a counter example: when a coaching staff is fired, the school retains ALL of the practice recordings from the prior staff. This practice-tape obviously contains play-designs, game-scripts, etc. that would have been tied to the previous staff's playbook and game-plans, but it is still deemed to be the university's property. I don't see how this would be any different.

The data HE compiled was his. The data he compiled with others was Auburn's. smuph didn't say he took all of the data..........just his.
This is the coaching profession. Trying to compare it with research being done by a University is absurd.

There’s no doubt he took the knowledge gained with him and maybe even a copy of the database but there’s zero chance he didn’t leave the data at Auburn.

Why would he have personal data that wasn't already logged into whatever electronic systems Auburn provided him to conduct his work? The nature of his work would require a live database that lots of other people would need immediate access to. Its not like he's writing it all out by hand into a notebook and then "logging" it all into the system/database at year-end, in which case you could argue that he got fired before he "submitted" his work and therefore it was all lost.
If he had any such data that wasn't recorded yet, it likely would have been just small brain-storming stuff that wasn't ready to officially log yet. The idea that his entire transfer portal board somehow wasn't logged into Auburn's systems is nonsensical, and no AD would allow him to work that way.
The more likely scenario here is that Golesh and his operations staff had access to the data, but he isn't going to be interested in copying the last guy's work, especially considering that he has vastly differing opinions on how to allocate money and what his priorities are.

By the way, here is what AI says:
quote:
Yes, the school legally and operationally retains all recruiting boards, evaluation databases, and compiled transfer portal data because these digital assets belong to the university, not the individual coaches.
Ownership of Data
• Institutional Property: Databases, CRM software (like Recruiting-Edge or HUDL/Accelerant), and evaluation notes are paid for and owned by the university's athletic department.
• Contractual Terms: Standard coaching contracts stipulate that all work product, records, and recruit evaluations compiled during employment remain university property upon termination.
• Server Access: Fired coaches and staff lose network access immediately, but data stored on cloud platforms or shared institutional drives stays behind for the administration and incoming staff.

IF he compiled HIS data on the University network.
He was the GM. No GM worth his salt is saving HIS work with any University or NFL franchise on THEIR computers. That is what personal laptops are for. That is how they get their next job without having to start over from scratch. That is THEIR value in that profession.
You can't be this dense.
ETA IE: He took HIS evaluations of recruits.

I highly doubt Redmond took anything that Auburn doesn't have.
I just googled him and he is college scout for the Packers.
That shows his prowess for sure but he has no reason to hold onto the list that his underlings already cold-called or researched. His prowess is what we miss maybe. I dont exactly remember any stars that came from nothing. Durkin brought X. In 2023 we had an OL out of nowhere named Gunner Britton that was a major stud. Maybe Redmond got us him.
Smuphy is a fan. Some of his shite needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

We just found out some kid got busted trying to give away our names to other SEC teams. There are all kinds of underlings that know these lists.
Redmond wasnt protecting his list in a vault

Redmond was the GM. He wasn't a recruiter. He took the data provided and he evaluated talent. That is a GM's. job.
I am sure he left the data compiled by his staff. All he took was his evaluations. He had every right to do that.

All I am saying is I doubt losing access to those evaluations shocked our system.
We brought in like 60 new players. We needed so many so we paid bottom dollar to field a team. If it did jolt us that bad we need to pay that guy double what we paid last time

I would think the new staff didn't have a lot of time to go through all the data and evaluate everything..........plus the O side of the ball had no time to build relationships with players the old staff was recruiting. The D side of the ball would have been different.
This next class will tell a lot more. We may have bought another lemon. We may have bought a guy that was dealt a bad hand in year one. Time will tell.
ETA Either way, we need a new AD. That is where the entire stink starts, IMO.

Interesting thing is our staff filled out our recruiting class very nicely very early which is very new to us.
Gus might have had 14 commits right now. Golesh has had 25 for a couple months. That leads me to think they have a plan and know what they want. They are ahead of schedule.
We dont have the same quality of recruit that Gus had by a long shot but if Golesh likes his guys then he has no excuse but to use them well.

Maybe we are talking about relationships with prospective players that were lost? Just spitballing. Would this guy have had them?
