"Disappointing loss. We’ve got a very disappointed locker room. Our guys fought, our defense played outstanding, had four turnovers, gave the offense the ball and some short fields. We just didn’t get it done offensively and that starts with me. I’ve got to do a better job preparing the guys and have our guys ready. If you look at the game, offensively we weren’t able to get anything goings specifically the run game in the first half right there. We got in a little rhythm in the second half with a little split zone as far as that goes. But any time you turn the ball over four times on the road, you’re going to have a tough time winning, so very disappointed.

"They’re a good team. The environment. The crowd did get to us. It really kinda surprised me. I don’t know how many false starts we had, but we had a couple of short-yardage deals and got backed up. Another thing that stood out is third-down-and-1-to-2. That’s usually our bread-and-butter, and I think we went 1 for 4 or 1 for 5 or something like that. It didn’t give us a chance to get first downs. Like I told the guys just a second ago, they’re disappointed and we should be.

Big picture, you look at the schedule, we’re 5-1, we have a break and it’s a good time to have a break and we need to get some stuff corrected. We’re going to.

“This team will respond. We’ve got a bunch of champions in that locker room. They’re going to respond after this week off, and we’ll make a run at it in this second half. It’s a learning experience. Our freshman quarterback is going to grow. I have to put him in better situations, but you’ve got to give Florida credit. They had a good plan, their crowd was a definite factor and they’ve got a good team.”

quote:

Why no Wildcat on third down given issues in those situations?

quote:

“Looking back obviously when you don’t get them, the Wildcat is one thing that we had in our package we didn’t use. Then like I said, I think at this point the off week is coming at a great time to evaluate a lot of different things form the standpoint of how we can improve. There’s a couple of things we got exposed in today and we’ll improve, but we’ve got great leadership. Our guys will respond, but the off week is coming at a good team.”

quote:

Why was Anthony Schwartz not utilized today?...

quote:

“Well, he was on the field about half the time. There were a couple times we tried to give him the ball, they did a good job on the speed sweep. Obviously he’s a dynamic playmaker and we’ve got to figure out ways to get him the ball more, and that will be something in the off week we talk about.”

quote:

What happened at the end of the 80-yard drive in the third quarter?...

quote:

"The big play, they had a blitz and we hit them over the top, and Seth made a good catch, he kinda stumbled, he was open, stumbled right there. And then we went pace, we ran counter trey, I think we threw a spot, got a couple yards, we went split zone with a lightning motion, went Cover 3, had a chance for an RPO, we just didn’t get it done. And then we had really good play at about the 10-yard line, a play we really like, and the crowd got us, I guess.

We got a 5-yard motion penalty, which is very uncharacteristic because at that time, to be honest with you, it wasn’t as loud as it had been because we had a little momentum. And then we got backed up to the 15-yard line, then we had the play.

“We just kinda under threw it a little bit, the kid made a good play. The bottom line is our quarterback, he’s a freshman quarterback. He’s learning as he goes against a good defense, but he’s led us to 5-1, so he’s going to bounce back. Like I said, I’ve got to do a better job putting him in better position, too. As far as everything goes with that.”

quote:

On communication issues due to crowd...

quote:

“You expect that, but the disappointing thing for me is we’ve been working with crowd noise since fall camp. This isn’t the only road game we’ve got like this. We’ve got a couple of others that are going to be similar. We didn’t handle it very good. That’s disappointing and it’s really surprising to me. I don’t know how many we had, four or five, but that’s too many. You work on communication, you work on sliding protections and everything.”

quote:

Any consideration of using Joey Gatewood?...

quote:

“Not full time, but he did have a package. Looking back there were probably a couple of things that we could have got him on the field a few times as a change of pace, but not as far as every down quarterback.”

quote:

On Derrick Brown’s performance...

quote:

“Derrick Brown is one of the best players in college football. He played his heart out and had the two pick-up fumbles and he carried it a long way on that one. He’s an impact player in big games. He got it done today.”

quote:

On the penalty issues for Auburn...

quote:

“We have to get it corrected. That’s just undisciplined. We’re not going to be able to have a chance to make a run at it unless we get our penalties corrected. If you look back in our history that’s pretty uncharacteristic too. This will be a good week to look at our penalties and look at the self-inflicted wounds we’ve been talking about. It will be a good time to reflect and get a good plan. We need to come back after this off week and get us a victory. In the past we’ve had a pretty good track record of playing well after off weeks. We need to do that same thing.”

quote:

On Florida’s third-down defense...

quote:

“They’ve got some guys that can rush the passer and they’re leading our league in sacks, but we just didn’t execute like we can. Give them credit. I don’t mean to take any credit away from them. They are good. We just didn’t execute like we thought we would. There were some things there we felt pretty good about, but give those guys credit. They are a good team. This is one of the toughest places to play, but we just didn’t get it done.”

quote:

Thoughts after the first quarter?...

quote:

“You just keep fighting man. As the game unfolds keep fighting. The turnovers and the red zone kept us from points. That hurts.”

What Gus doesn't get is most of those false starts were because HE didn't get the play called in time. They were jumping right at zero seconds. So it was going to be a 5 yard penalty either way.

He’s always admitted his mistakes. Correcting them, that’s a different story.

Took a step back today. Offense was progressing and hit a wall. Nix had a bad day and its slways tied to play callung or sidekine coaching. He didnt throw deep enough and players were open and 1v1 many times. Nix was chasing the play elsewhere.

Yep, those false starts weren't on Driscoll. Apparently, he was the only one cognizant of the time on the play clock. They were going to be penalties either way.

Wish one of the questions was why don’t you use the middle of the field? Especially when they are selling out to defend the perimeter

This, certainly worked last week.

And yes, the lateness in getting the plays in was costly.

By the way, why oh why is it we call a timeout and come back with a run up the middle?????

And Gatewood coming in and actually throwing a pass would have totally swung the momentum and the look of the defense.
