Let’s keep it civil. This is an extremely frustrating and uncertain time for everyone.

Hopefully those that theorize the summer months will lower transmission rates are correct and we don’t deal with half a year of this thing.

Our bodies are better equipped to fight SARS when it's warm outside. My CDC pals are cautiously optimistic that these next few weeks will be the worst for us, then it'll peter out.

This is another strand of the flu. Nothing more. People need to stop freaking the frick out

^^^ spot on. All the %s have an erroneous numerator. Ohio government guesses 100k in ohio right now have it.

But cant stop the freak out by those addicted to fear porn...

When's the last time entire countries shut down for "another strand of the flu?"

Swine flu. Possibly 200,000 died from the strain. From april 09 to early 2010 61M Americans got it, 18000 died.

Headlines then:

Maybe there is a reason things are shutdown and it's how its covered? I doubt I need to show CNN, fnc, drudge you name it headlines right now.

Yep, just like this broad you failed too. Wasn't asking about the numbers just the math. I know not everyone reports, just like not all deaths* are attributable to the virus, and not everyone can read.

It was maths.

Was plotting the trend per country, the numbers have never made sense, with 300% difference in percentages from one country to the next.

*eta: (ie. not all deaths* are attributable to the virus) ... If you've already got one foot in the grave, did th'covid get you or was it 2 packs a day for 30 years?

My wife stopped by Publix in our little town last night to pick up a few things for the weekend. All the damn shelves are empty. Meat, toiletries, bread. Just crazy. We have plenty of wine and ice cream. Atleast they didnt take that from her.

Imagine being a stock guy at these stores. It will be like stocking a brand new store once all this is over with. Lots of work getting those stores back in shape.

Your subtraction, division and multiplication skills looked great then

But the premise of your calculations from an epidemiological perspective is flawed because the numbers at this point are flawed By several deviations. A majority of these stats as of now are inaccurate because it's so early in this event. There isn't a unified standard for the testing kit, so there will be large errors (false positives and negatives) there. Most countries are under-testing due to availability. A significant portion of those patients in your confirmed + but not recovered limbo category are in recovery, but the test kit are still flagging positive due to the presence of denatured viron particles still in the blood. Applying a mortality rate to those in the limbo category is not a standard practice, but those that do choose to do that need more specific subcategories of those in limbo. Once a standard treatment regime is set for the severly afflicted patients, mortality rate will drop. The most accurate number at this point is deaths.

All these outlets are reporting various rates because that's what the public demands, but the true numbers for SARS-CoV-2 won't be calculated until this is in the endgame.

I had to pick up a prescription for the kid yesterday. The store was decimated. When the pharmacist realized the meds were for a kid, she gave me a bottle of rubbing alcohol from behind the counter "in case I needed to disinfect anything for the kiddo". A mini-riot then ensued From the surrounding customers. People are treating this as Armageddon

People's true being comes out in a crisis. Its just human nature. There are a few different types of people out there right now. The ones who think this entire thing is a joke. The ones who are in full panic meltdown mode and then the people in the middle who listen, make judgements and dont fall apart.

Every person in the USA is in one of those catagories. I do not think this thing is a joke nor and I im full meltdown mode. This too will pass and we will survive. People just need to use their heads and not fall apart. Dont become a total dick to everyone else because you are melting.

It’s the same way up here in Huntsville. I stopped in Walmart for some milk, and the store looked like people were expecting a blizzard. There was no toilet paper or paper towels to be found. No bread of any sort- not hot dog buns or hamburger buns or French bread. Nothing. And meat- decimated. As I was walking by, butchers brought out more ground beef and people were waiting to swarm. Oh, and Ramen, all gone. Every buggy was overflowing. I wish everyone would just be smart- don’t gather in large groups, don’t take any unnecessary risks or trips, and just be sensible.

My biggest fear with all these people at home is that some will decide, for whatever reason, to travel to another state or area of the country, that they will use this time as vacation time rather than stomp out virus time. They will go mix it up with people from other areas and bring back more virus.

The hysteria is much more harmful than the virus...

I went to our small, local Piggly Wiggly yesterday to grab some charcoal and meat to grill this weekend since the weather is gonna be so nice. What I saw there was insane. It was hurricane level panic multiplied by 10. Most shoppers' carts looked the same...

The fat hillbilly lady's shopping cart in front of me checking out contained:

4 gallons of milk
4 loaves of bread
2 giant crates of eggs
6 large bags of Golden Flake chips
8 cases of various Coke products
2 giant cases of Ziegler red hotdogs
2 cases of toilet paper
2 gallons of the cheap ice cream
And... a 6 pack of Bud Ice.

This required a complicated payment of EBT, credit, and cash.

My normal 5 minute grocery trip lasted nearly an hour. I anticipate stores like this one having to close for a few days to catch up and restock within the coming days, weeks. This shite is ridiculous...

No offense bro but what’s ridic is we are judging people from what’s in their buggies.

As for the pharmacy concerns, my wife was picking up my medicine and it took 45 mins for her to do so. Her birth control also cost a shite ton more than usual. The Josh Rogan link I shared the other day talking about China mass producing many of our essential medicines and having a shut down might have something to do with that. I would definitely start looking to refill prescriptions if you can.

When I was in HS, I was “diagnosed” with the Swine Flu in 09 and was forced to stay out of school for weeks. I really didn’t feel all that bad.

I can judge all the frick I want. People panic buying and depleting resources is fricking stupid. If everyone would maintain their goddamn shopping habits and not be idiots, we could all maintain some normalcy.

Instead, you have to either join the pack of idiots that panic and overbuy items or go without.
