really don’t get the Jarret Stidham hate on this board.

I dont speak for the board, but for me it was his demeanor. He would be playing like crap and seemed like he didnt have a care in the world other than how his hair looked after removing his helmet.

Honestly I think it has a lot to do with not living up to his potential and being so inconsistent. He showed flashes of greatness, then would come out and have a game like the Tennessee game. And act like he didnt give a shite.

I agree that the talent difference was a big factor. Kerryon was sorely missed last year. With that being said my biggest gripe with JS8 was he just seemed way too soft for the SEC imo. He gave up on plays and looked scared to death in the pocket (can't blame him with that o line play).

Bo won me over on that 4th down conversion at end of game. This kid is not soft and will do what it takes to get his team in a better position. Will his head strong attitude possibly lead to losses this season, probably. But he is much easier to get behind than JS8 was for me personally.

Stidham was a perfectly fine QB. No one would dispute that. But Stidham never bought into Auburn and the team. That's fine and I get it and he still won a lot of games anyways, but you gotta understand why he didn't exactly win over the fan base.

“He never bought into Auburn or the team”

His social media says otherwise. It says that he loves Auburn and he shows it. Nobody on this board knows whether he bought into the team, but I would guess he did because not once did we hear another player complain about his work ethic or selfishness.

This thread has gotten out of hand.

I was critical of Stidham in 2017. I believed he turned the ball over too much, didn't hold in the pocket long enough, wouldn't make the proper reads on RPO's, etc...I blamed his RPO reads for the LSU loss not play calling.

That being said...it is time to move on. He gave whatever he gave to Auburn and 2017 had some highs he was a part of as well. I am glad he won the backup job for the Pats. I hope he does well in the future and we can spin it to future recruits that he is an Auburn hero, etc...they won't have any idea about his time with us or the ups and downs 8 years down the road if he does well in the NFL. They will only see his college and his NFL career.

In our history he was better than our average. I think the distain comes from his "perceived" attitude and the unrealized potential of last season which he only shares some of the blame.

Yeah if he didn’t care so much he wouldn’t have played in the fricking music city bowl. He was a good qb for us

How did this thread go from discussing Bo's first TD being improvised to bashing Stidham? 90% of the replies have nothing to do with the OP.

If y'all find what I posted rather boring because y'all already knew this then can y'all discuss Bo's performance, and what y'all expect for the rest of the season?

Something to keep this thread somewhat on topic instead of turning this thread into a Stidham bashing thread.

Just got this way because there is a clear difference between Bo and Stidham in the amount they care about Auburn winning football games. It's that simple. Again, no one is saying Stidham sucked or that he didn't do well while he was here because he was definitely above average and he won 18 games.

It sort of showed HUNH at full potential.

Bo saw it and executed.

Sign of a guy who has been in a similar offense since basically birth.

I wish Stidham all the success in the NFL. But I'm glad as frick he's no longer at AU. No hate, just not really a guy who really ever felt like a true fit at AU.

Same. Bo is much more fun to watch. Gatewood would have been, too. This is just like “fit” at any other job. Talent doesn’t always translate to good fit. Stidham is a very good QB - just not a very good fit.

Nix was under pressure during long developing pass plays and still made better decisions though he still needs to learn to trust the pocket himself and not run himself out of a pocket. Smaller sample size albeit.

Good observation.
During the game, I was getting a little irritated at Nix, bc at times he would start to roll out, thinking the pushback from the D was a breakdown in pressure. When, if he just moved a little in the pocket, he had time to find an open WR and make a completion.

But he is better, bc he is more nimble and quicker at scrambling than Stidham.

Definitely. Seems like our WR had an uninspired game outside of Eli, Hastings, and 4th Quarter Seth Williams. My gut feeling is that Bo might have inspired some confidence in the offensive personnel. I’d bet they come out on fire Saturday.

Another note - having Schwartz back is going to really help us balance out, I think. His ability to get behind the defense will probably translate in to better running lanes.

I was also hoping to see more plays designed to get the ball to Matthew Hill. I think he has great hands, and to me he and Williams seem to be more polished WRs.

I do think Stove has gotten better, and Seth needs to learn to be a every down WR or he'll not translate his talents to the NFL.

I haven't seen anything but I assumed so, since he came out against Oregon. I'm glad they're playing his injury smart but his presence would be very helpful.
