My goodness that was a horrible finish. 12 sacks? Penalties galore to finish. Pathetic.

Don’t think the OL was bad other than the penalties. Their actual play was about as good as you could hope for with Arnold camping out in the backfield.

On paper, it looks like the OL did bad, but the QB is more than culpable

Yea, at this point our special teams coach needs to be gone at a minimum. He is atrocious. I don’t blame kicking on him, those guys have their own coach, but our coverage, blocking and returning is just awful and always get penalties. They continually make poor decisions and have awful awareness.

I agree with this 100% …. and it’s the same exact problems continuing from 2024.

1. This absolutely should have been effectively addressed in the off-season.
2. The current “cobbled together “ solution is going to cost us additional games this season.
3. And the beat goes on …

He also won’t throw it to a guy that has a 1v1. Guys may have a defender on them but if you throw with timing, you can throw guys open or let them adjust to a ball that a defender can’t.

This. They keep talking about no interceptions but he is too damn risk averse to where it’s a huge damn problem.

Shows me he’s scared and lacks confidence.

There is no way they grade well. 10 sacks and most of the penalties were on them. False starts and holding penalties.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

Arnold was a 5* out of HS. Started as a sophomore with a team decimated by injury. Given what we knew about both QBs at the time, the choice was clear, but wrong. Brady was, what, a 5th round pick?

Hugh has to understand this and alter the play calls. You can just keep calling four verts all game. I never thought going from Gus to Hugh we would be just as bad at attacking the middle of the field.

Idk tho. Its been explosive at times. Thorne was piecing up Oklahoma just last year remember?

How did that work out for that game and the rest of the season?

I’d chalk that up to Okie wasn’t that good last year. QB was a good part of their problem.

And Hugh went and got him.

Yep, which is why I don't have much hope of Arnold being the guy long term. Having the talent mentally to be elite is something QBs tend to have or don't, though they can improve decision-making with good coaching.

We've seen zero improvement from any QB under Freeze however, which makes me doubt how good the coaching he is getting on that regard is.

This is what we went and got. We struggled with Malzahn who had a "system" that couldn't adjust as defenses and rules adjusted. He was more run oriented, but his passing game was more or less similar... shots in the flat or long developing deep routes. Freeze has a similar mindset and I just don't think it flies in top level football anymore. We seem to have very few routes in the middle of the field and too many of our plays take three to five seconds to develop. We don't have the line for that against a team like Oklahoma.

We need a real offensive coordinator.

I dont remember Murphy or Wade picking up a penalty. And a hold isnt going to trash lews grade. And I think Wright still grades out decent. He was part of cobbs big run.
