No one guy has all of the checklist we want.

1. SEC experience
2. Head coach experience
3. Recruiting contacts in Alabama and Georgia
4. Great leader of young men
5. Connects with the fan base
6. Proven success with the NIL
7. Has consistently beaten really good teams.
8. Has shown he can build a program.

There is no man who fits all of those.

The real question is:

Which of those criteria are the ones you can “live without” as an Auburn fan? Which is least important?

I am going to get behind the new guy even though he won’t have every box checked.

How about everyone else do the same and let’s get this problem fixed as a fan base?

In the meantime, I plan to enjoy Caddy’s enthusiasm and these guys playing their hearts out.

Kiffin is the closest thing. Start there and then move to Plan B.

Saban has talked shite about the Updyke fanbase on multiple occasions. I don’t give a crap about whether I like the guy personally or not, just win baby.

most important: 8
least important: 5 or 6

HCs are still adjusting to NIL, so I expect a learning curve there. And if he’s good with all the other things, we wouldn’t have to worry about the fanbase.

There is a guy out there who seems to check most of these boxes: Dave Aranda.

I hope we’ve at least made an attempt at going after him.

Or give me another name besides:

Kiffin, Lanning, Freeze or (sigh) Sanders who will not massively fracture/let down the fan base.

Please, Cohen, don't over think it.

Worried he might think he is being smart by going after someone like James Franklin.

Honestly I think most of the top names, and even Grimes, would get broad support if the search made sense to people.

If something happened and Deion wasn't available, we missed on Kiffin, Lanning was out - people would be fine with Grimes.

The issue is when we miss on Kiff, don't want to pay 14 million to hire a new coach in Lanning and don't give Deion consideration before hiring Grimes.

Yes, Grimes would have pretty good support.

Aranda is not one of the top 3 in
Peoples wish list.

Which is OP’s point.

Kinda off topic but looking at the list got me thinking, Bruce checks about every single one. We need the football Bruce.

Problem with your list is there is no %. They are not all 12.5 in importance.

I'm not smart enough to gauge it, but make another thread where you rank them.

1. SEC experience
2. Head coach experience
3. Recruiting contacts in Alabama and Georgia
4. Great leader of young men
5. Connects with the fan base
6. Proven success with the NIL
7. Has consistently beaten really good teams.
8. Has shown he can build a program. There is no man who fits all of those.

50% of all NFL teams come from Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, and Los Angelas. While recruiting Fairhope, AL may be on your list, what about the others? Like a hurricane map though, everything south of Orlando is Miami.

112. Wear a tie, or beard, or smoke, or all 3.

Plus Kiffin can't beat top teams. That's just as bad as losing 30% of your games at Auburn. He wouldn't win the West losing to Bama, UGA, and possibly LSU every year and then would lose his bowl game against a good team if he only lost 2 games and beat LSU. So a 3 loss season at best to look forward to. Likely another loss when OK and TX come.

That's what happened with Harsin. Trying to settle on someone to please everyone.
