Some coaches are pure gamers. The game itself is what drives them and they never tire of it no matter how much they are paid. Others, become more complacent when their financial goals are satisfied. It doesn't take much of a shift in a highly competitive league to have consequences.
It's an old story.
It's an old story.

Sad story really. In 2013, he was the reason Auburn could run and nobody could figure out how to stop it.
If he'd done that in NYC, he would have gotten a ticket.

The substitution rule was the killing blow to Gus’s dreams of winning a championship. He never knew how to adapt to it.

From his Louisiana arrest. The Mexico stunt only got him 5 years of probation.

couldn't / wouldn't adapt to the new rules that opened the middle of the field for passing, either.

Holy crap!!! Dude needs to legit go away for a bit. Chances are he is going to be a repeat offender though.

My theory on this is that nothing is wrong with Gus …. in his own head. After getting canned from Auburn, he should have swallowed his ego and taken an OC/QB coach role where he will not have had the burden of managing and recruiting and work on his play calling/schemes and get with the times. Then he could have jumped to one of the bigger programs when the time is right. He is stuck in UCF recruiting leftovers from the FL kids after Ga, Miami, FL have taken the best ones.

One of the great what-ifs imo is what could have been had Pettway been around, giving us that other much needed RB as the year wound down.
I have heard that Pettway wasn't injured, he was essentially kicked off the team for getting into repeated fights and similar legal problems off campus. Rather than writing Pettway off and trying to get some other back up to speed or trying to use some other approach to fill that gap, Malzahn was trying to get Pettway reinstated and get the University to pay his legal expenses.
If this story is true, it shows you where Malzahn's head is: firmly inserted up his own body cavity.
Of course, it may not be true, but the problem is that with Malzahn, it is believable.

My theory is that it’s due to the toxicity of the boogers that are ACTUALLY in his own head.

I never could get a read on whether Pettway had personal problems or if he was in a doghouse. We also lost Jovon in that offseason as well. Jovon went from the bowl game MVP in 2015 to a fricking nobody kicked off the team despite the woman recanting her domestic violence claims. Truth be told Kerryon never should have gotten the extra carries and he is lucky Gus put him in the league.

What hurt Gus was how bad other schools negatively recruited against him by using what NFL coaches said of his players when they came into the NFL. They had no idea how to pass block. HS recruits want to be told how they can make it to the NFL

The booger eating is out of control tonight.

This- today- is what Gus does. Booger powered insanity. Makes everything worse actually- make you think things are or could be better or make you hopeful. It’s FOOLs GOLD.

The internet really broke some of y’all on Malzahn. It’s glorious.
Dude was a very good Auburn coach. He actually fit for us. But continue on with the hate.

All Freeze has to do is recruit hard and win 8 and he is equal to Gus. He might get to 8 year one.
