We are not talking about 2020

We are talking about when Gus left Auburn when Chizik was HC to go to ASU.

Try and keep up.

Essentially there is a limit (I think 28) of the total number of players you can bring in for that years recruiting class. Schools sometimes bring in more by back counting to the previous class. I’d imagine there would be some sort of transfer portal limit also. You don’t want schools abusing it and creating essentially a free agency market. I do think there needs to be some disincentives added as well so that teams don’t suffer dramatic roster losses like Auburn for example. Hell even bama has lost I think 9 players to the portal. They’ll of course reload but losing 9 players a year over the course of 3 years is the equivalent of losing an entire signing class.

I've always thought the media is the worst enemy of Auburn. Always has been. Not our PTB, not our administration, not our AD. The media. When we get close to them and share with them, they leak the crap asap to get their clicks. If you don't talk to them, they just make shite up.

A guy from some radio or TV from Idaho was on the radio here earlier. Said a lot of the same concerning things we are hearing about Harsin. He said the media is just different there. Said BSU controls the narrative and the media there pretty much just parrot the BSU press releases. I don't think Harsin, or any coach, is ever prepared for the media that covers Auburn.

Of course, across the state, it is always love and roses. Nothing is ever wrong. Everyone is protected.

Spot on, I would add social media and message boards. (Think back to ATPB and how so many believed every word that came from this very forum)

Didn't the Media have something to do with Heisman leaving Auburn in 1899? I think I heard that somewhere.

25. There’s all kinds of ways to increase class size by how scholarships are accounted for. There’s a 85 scholarship hard count.

Undergraduate transfers count against the 25. However, grad transfers only count toward the 85. That’s really the only cap.

Back to the 25 — ncaa approved a one time (up to) 7 scholarship increase to that 25. You’d need to lose at least 7 guys to the portal to take advantage of the 7. Otherwise, it was a match situation (5 out =5 in, for example). Auburn had 18 so we had 7 extra to use.

Alabama signs really full classes. From 2018-2021 they signed 100 (27,25,27,21) not including transfers in. So they rely on attrition. They also typically have a lot of guys leave for the NFL before their eligibility expires which is a benefit.

All schools have transfers. I’d assume as long as you’re bringing in full classes that 9 is normal. As noted, we had double that amount

Ironically, PM was the journalist with the best and most accurate reporting of that story the entire time.

Back in those days coaches had thicker skin and didn't react to crap that popped up on twitter or any of the paysites. So imagine how bad it was if he got fed up

Gus left for Arky St. lol. That would be like Kirby leaving Bama for Arky St. He was run off so we could run Bamas offense and history shows that failed and Bama started running Gus offense 2 yrs later. My point is, we don’t even know when we have a good thing

Been out in the field today and listening to state kite. Have listened to 3-4 different shows and Auburn has come up on every show and some times multiple times.

Auburn is getting shite on in each of those instances. Siding with Harsin until something new comes up to justify Auburn’s position, and how shady the University was changing its policy Tuesday.

Good times
