Profit - I think you may be conflating the Athletic department vs. Men's football and basketball
Profits 1
Profits 2
Men's football is wildly profitable...

Much of the profit from football is used to pay for other sports and admin costs - not the football player's role to subsidize the golf team. Hence, they will probably eventually get revenue sharing to avoid direct payments from the schools/may leave NCAA governance to structure around Title IX.

Athletes and jock sniffers alike have a very skewed perspective on the importance of college athletics to universities. Time for a comeuppance is approaching.
This feels personal
Successful athletics have many many many tangential benefits to a school such as alumni involvement and giving (not that research doesn't have them as well). I promise you a "comeuppance" is not approaching. Nobody is ever going to tune in to CBS to hear about research at Auburn every Saturday.

OTV should be telling you exactly how your money is being distributed, is that happening?

If you want the ability to earmark towards a certain sport or to a certain player I dont think you can do that yet.

I agree - and no clue...

They should also break down admin costs etc. but again no clue if that happens.

Bonkers if you can't direct it to your sport of choice.

OTV isn’t a nonprofit. They distribute 90% of all funds received to the athletes. 10% goes to administration, payroll, and overhead.

No we don’t get a fiscal breakdown of where money goes exactly. Could they be pocketing 70% and investing into athletes 30%? Yes. I hope that isn’t the case and don’t think it is.

My thing is the only ROI I’m looking for is better athletes. I don’t need discount coupons, bumper stickers, shirts, player messages, none of that interest me. However I’m not a celebrity chaser or anything like that. I’ve never even asked anyone for an autograph and I know some folks like that shite. I participate just to try to help my team. If they frick it all up that’s on them

You can specify which sports you would like the funds to go towards.

They should hire an independent audit company to verify that they are being efficient and responsible every year..

I would suspect that to be a “best practices” portion of the business model

This needs to go the gamification way. You are watching a game and someone makes an awesome play. You go to the app and donate $5 to that player. So after the Kick 6, Chris Davis would be a millionaire. It will be all transparent, everyone will be able to see how much a player made. If you are anyway paying players, go ahead and just open that shite up and have fun with it. Rather than fret about paying monthly, and wondering who it’s going to, just pay directly to someone who you want to and when you want to.

What would be the pros and cons of that? Open to debate!

That sounds an awful lot like a not-for-profit.

That's what they told me when I was mad about the Hugh hire. OTV said that I could designate a sport.

I wish there was a little more transparency, but I guess it's an arms race and you don't want to show your hand to your opponent.

I do think there should be QR codes over every urinal in JHS for a one time donation of something small, quick, and easy like $5 or $10 in one click. Target your front line customers and make it easy enough my 70+ dad can do it.

They need buckets outside the gates when people enter the stadium.... Salvation Army style. Better put them out pregame right now. Post game will be slim pickens...

I think the collectives are new, and the value of having a well run collective not realized yet however I don't think OTV is garbage. I have no clue why you think the way you do. If you have incite, fire away.

Of the approximately 85 scholarship players on our roster, how many are getting some kind of NIL compensation?

Do we know who gets what and who gets nothing?

That's part of the rub to me. No idea who gets what, how much we have, how much we need...

I am just wondering what kind of friction it causes in the locker room.

How in the hell do yall bump 4 day old conversations like I care to still talk about that shite.

Yes there needs to be more transparency and third party auditing and maturation into the role of NLI, but as long as we can lose recruits due to NIL I will say OTV contributions are a must.
