Rhett Lashlee

Season 1 at SMU:
Finished 7-6. He was 0-1 against ranked opponents, losing to Tulane by 35.

Season 2 at SMU:
Finishes 11-3. He was 0-1 against ranked opponents, losing to Oklahoma by 17.

Season 3 at SMU:
Finished 11-3. He was 0-3 against ranked opponents, losing by 3, 3, and 28 points, respectively.

Season 4 at SMU:
Currently 4-2. He has not yet played a team ranked in the current Top 25.

His team did lose to Baylor at home… a team Auburn beat on the road by 14 points.

So as a whole, Lashlee is winless against teams that finished in the Top 25 during his 3.5 seasons in Highland Park.

I’m sure his record looks impressive to some… because I see his name floated around… but I’m scratching my head to see how he would be better than what we’ve already got.

Brent Key:

First off, he’s never been a coordinator in the SEC or at any major program.

First season at Georgia Tech:
Finished 7-6. He was 0-3 against Final Top 25 opponents… losing by 5, 8, and 25 points.

Second season at Georgia Tech:
Finishes 7-6. He was 1-3 against ranked opponents… beating #18 Miami by 5.

Third season at Georgia Tech:
Currently 6-0, having played zero currently ranked opponents. There are no ranked opponents on the schedule until they play Georgia at the end of the season.

Of all the candidates that are frequently mentioned, I think I like him the most. However, his 1-6 record against ranked opponents isn’t all that impressive. And his lack of experience at a major school is concerning. GT is at least in the South, but having never served as even a coordinator in the SEC shows he’s fairly inexperienced.

I’m going to disagree with you. We need a Premier League coaching change of change for the sake of change.

That being said, go hire Sumrall and be done with it.

First off we don't have an open position. Some of your list on twitter is funny. Should have listened when we were hiring "Melt" because Freeze doesn't stay cool under pressure...

Cignetti was for the taking at JMU had a great record & built everywhere he has been. Now his buyout is 60 Mil...we are not touching that...

So do we go coordinator route? Or current coach?

Break it down. If current coach, you have to get one at a lower program as people who are currently successful or think they are successful won't be willing to come here as they have their gig. So that leaves folks who aren't successful but want to jump jobs. Strike them...now that leaves you with folks at schools like USF & that type who have built up their programs, or can we get a maintainer type who can take over the current group and maintain the talent.

Then you have to look at their backgrounds, what did they do when adversity hit? there are many issues to look into. Any skellies? ie hookers & blow, bent over a secretary over their desk? screw a recruits mom? (we have had some of that here).

If you go a coordinator route then you ask similar questions but look at their recruiting prowess...same with a current coach, that might lead you to a candidate like Hartline

What we don't need is retreads, weak minded people, weak leadership, etc

It is a tough place to coach. The people will love you until they don't and then it will be really rough. We do need the PTB to get the f out and let the coach coach.

Unfortunately (for Auburn) I think there are
going to be some big time programs in the markets for new coaches this cycle

Obviously Penn State

Possibly - Florida, Florida State, Michigan

And them dragging their feet on firing him is getting worse by the day.

If we don't go into this with Dan Mullen as the backup plan to the backup plan to the backup plan we're fricking it up. Dan is the absolute worse we should do.

Oh so just like we did when we fired Gus? Yes let’s double down on the very thing that caused us to get to this point.

You losers are ok with 8 wins a year. I am not and would hope Auburn folks are not.

You want to know how to never win even 8 games? Fire a coach for the 3rd time in less than 5 years time. Lets just keep doing it and see if we can run this program into the ground even further.

Enjoy losing. Auburn fans seem to love it.

We shouldn't have hired the last two. There were many better candidates out there that are proving their worth now...

We are 0-3 to start SEC play for the 3rd season in a row.

This has NEVER, I the whole history of Auburn football, happened until now.

But tards like 789 want more more more. Why? Because he’s scared. What a pussy.

We talk about Tennessee. How they doing? Playoff last year. Yes, count me in, I’d like some of that. Quit being losers Auburn folks, expect better, do nt be a huge scared pussy like 789 or Jang.

Id rather take a chance at doing better than sticking it out with 6 win seasons with CHF. Worst case scenario we drop to a 3 or 4 win team for a season, but at least the seasons won't be so heartbreaking after having high hopes and being "CLOSE"

I can provide you two examples of coaches who’ve not performed well coming off a snap decision to fire a coach without a plan for replacement: Brian Harsin and Hugh Freeze.

Now you show me one program that has ever fired three coaches in five years for performance reasons who saw immediate improvement after doing so.

At some point, you’ve got to give your coach plenty of time to build a program. Auburn is without a doubt improved this season… it may not show up in the W/L column due mostly to getting screwed by officials… but this team is the best team we’ve had since 2019.

Some of you are going to be scratching your heads next season when we start 0-3 in conference play but instead of losing in the final minute, we’re down 21 at the half. But apparently that’s what you guys are pining for.
