I don’t think folks realize what a loss Coach Dye was. He was the expert that had the ear of the PTB and kept them from doing stupid shite. I miss Coach Dye!

No shite. It takes hitting bottom to look back and appreciate what you had.

Here's to hoping this IS rock bottom
Some of these younger folks can't imagine what it's like to go into every game for a decade knowing we had a chance to win

I dont think some of you remember what happened to tubbs when Alabama got its balls back. Dude crawled up in a corner and got in the fetal position
His time was good and then it was over. Just like everyone elses
Like some have said, we wont be bringing in and top tier coach. They are smarter than that. Have to put our hopes and dreams on a young guy will balls full and a huge work ethic
Then pray. It is the Auburn way

There’s you another option. Jeff Brohm.
I wanted Brohm back when Haskins was hired. He turned Purdue around. But he’s a former Louisville player. I’m not sure if he’ll leave.

It is amazing, huh? We have at least two guys who, in my opinion, would be great at that role. Singleton and Simmons. Clear out the middle of the field and hit one of them in stride on the drag/over/dig route. Key point being "hit them in stride" as they both have the speed to kill defenses if you put the ball on them while they're already at speed.
They tried that against thUGA. Twice Perry had his man beat badly and Arnold threw it at his feet or 2 yards behind him.

of course some have forgotten AU’s last bowl victory - and only bowl win over a P5 team in the last 15 years - came against Brohm’s Purdue squad after the 2018 season

Tub's time had likely passed, but the killing blow was the PTB suddenly falling in love with the idea of a spread offense that negates talent advantage. They're still in love with that idea and it stopped working the second the substitution rules were changed.

So you are saying we need to concentrate on the most important position on the field?
Weird. Crazy concept. LOL.

Yup. We wouldn’t be having this thread right now if Freeze knew what a good QB was. He made us suffer through 2 years of one head case just to give us another one. And he refuses to fire his buddy Kent Austin to hire a an actual QB coach that might just help him identify one, and could actually coach them when they got here.

I’m on board with that.

Franklin, cristobal, freeze are all the same coach; excellent recruiter but below average gameday coach.
Oh and Sark also, they called him 7 win sark when he was at washington.

Please point to a time where Freeze has ever averaged nearly 10 wins a year for a decade. Not to mention Franklin won 2 playoff games last year. Freeze is nowhere near the guys on your list.

The narrative he can't win a big game is not entirely true. They had a fantastic season last year and almost played fir a title. We would be over the moon for 2024 PSU. PSU is also challenging because you have Joe Pa, Jr. The guy literally have a fit when he wasn't named HC after his dad, and has worked against Franklin ever since. It is a weird place.

We have what it takes to be that, but we don’t have the leadership to make it so.
Seems like there is a solution to this.

Look at their schedule last year. Their signature wins were against:
#19 Illinois
#10 SMU
#9 Boise State
All teams that are nowhere near Penn State from a pure talent standpoint.
The "book" on him is that he can't win when the talent is comparable or not in his favor, which is why he keeps blowing and finding ways to lose against teams like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oregon, etc. In these games he gets outcoached.
They had an extremely favorable playoff bracket draw last year in that they got to face the two traditional ~G5 schools with less talent who back their way into the playoff to get their chance to see if they can actually compete.
