You forgot Horace. I heard Spencer took 90% of the 3s in practice this week

Bruce said on SVP’s SC that we’re not going to be able to speed them up and we’re going to have to play their game. Also said if we want a chance to get them out of their comfort zone we’ll need to get out to a quick lead.

Bruce is right. Only way you can speed them up is with an early lead.

But I would kill to see Horace make it rain with a 4-5 performance from range in the final 4 lol.

Yep, glad to here he is preparing to slow things down if need be. It’s really not that hard to slow the pace of a game. The only way we get them to speed it up any is to make them chase our scoring.

Bruce playing mind games with UVA? I find it hard to believe he would complete concede our style of play
Not really a choice for AU
For reference using KenPom, UVA has played in only 1 game vs P6 opponents with >65 possessions in the past 3 seasons
That's despite having 15 ACC teams during that span rank in the top 100 in Adjusted Tempo

If I read another article from sports writers talking about how a packline defense excels vs the 3 I'm going to lose it. That's lazy reporting
If someone tried to play a packline defense vs Golden State, the NBA record for 3s would be set
UVA 3FG% defense is based on teams forcing up shot clock beaters + UVA conceding open 3FGA to post players

Niebuhr talked to signee Jaylin Williams. He’s 6’8, 225 these days. I know that we’ve heard Akingbola is a bit bigger than his listed measurements as well. This is going to be a big class

I’ve been surprised at how much y’all about this there has been. The on-ball defender basically plants his feet just inside the 3-point line and puts his hand up. We’ve got too many guys that can hit from a few feet beyond the line to do this. That doesn’t even account for baiting them with a drive and having three guys collapse the paint, leaving pretty much everyone wide open.

It’s the epitome of stats without context.
You only have to look back one year to see what happens to the packline defense when the other team is knocking down 3s.
This isn’t to say that UVA is going to give us all the open 3s we want, but the shots will be there if we play smart. If we are hitting them, UVA will have some tough decisions to make

From what I've seen of UVa play, their bigs hedge WAAAAY too hard on the pick & roll...
Anfernee could have a career game on slips to the basket. And if the loosen up, Jared could come off scoring or driving & dishing

UVA almost always will almost always have a 3rd defender in rim protection + that hedge is so hard/quick that ball handler won't have a great passing lane

And if they loosen up,
I'm interesting to see how UVA holds up conditioning wise over 40 minutes. They only have 6 players in the rotation for PG to PF
I don't expect AU to speed up the game but I do expect us to speed up how UVA players move on the court from our transition offense pressure to half court sets designed to maximize defensive player movement. I'd imagine we give some full court pressure looks to make them work to cross half court too

So much coverage of “dirty pearl”. They can’t talk
About Zion being in the game so they are literally posting hit piece after hit piece on Bruce. Latest one by espn talking about NCAA and coaches have lot to reconcile. Only talking about Bruce and some others that aren’t in the tourney anymore.

ESPN article was actually pretty tame regarding Bruce.
It was a lot more "What do we make of a coach constantly surrounded by controversy?" A lot better than being labeled as the "rot" or "snake"

So screw statues, screw renaming the arena
Renovate the main entrance to the Arena to have big gates and call it the "Pearly Gates" and create some goofy AF tradition to go along with
This idea was Bruce's at USI

This. I feel like folks are giving us little credit (as usual). To me, Kentucky was a more dangerous match up for us. UNC was probably the fastest transition team we played.
I think we get ours when it comes to transition points. Just hope the 3s fall.

We are probably the most disrespected team to ever play in the final four. Nobody’s giving us a shot. Tony Bennett wasn’t asked a single question about Auburn, he had to throw us in two of his answers for us to even be mentioned in his press conference. Honestly I wouldn’t want it any other way because that’s when this team thrives.
