is this a clear federal crime?
From my understanding, possibly but it is legal gymnastics
It seems that it all hinges on two key points:
1- Why FBI cares/jurisdiction: Person is an agent of Auburn, which receives federal funds and is a federally funded organization. Fed has stake in fed funded orgs finances
The statute is written to talk about diverting funds/property from the fed funded organization
2- Why it qualifies as a bribe: Person being bribed cause "economic harm" by risking NCAA judgments that could expose Auburn to financial distress + affects their control over finances
The legal gymnastics
1- FBI claims Person affected Auburns control of assets like scholarship allocation/ scholarship $
This would imply scholarships are assets transferred to players conditioned on their ability to play sports.... As in players are paid w valuable assets to play sports
... In a case about violation of amateurism
2- Economic harm by NCAA sanctions/tournament prohibition
Which means there was no actual damage/financial harm, just potential. Considering the NCAA being unpredictable on judgments and the financial ramifications unclear, this is a hard sell
Plus Auburn BBall doesn't have a history of making tournament so hard to argue that any NCAA punishment would negatively impact Auburn financially

If he brought Wiley back, that would be something. I really don't care about Heron tbh.

I've always poured water on the Heron hype parades, but this is a bad take

Been looking at mock drafts after the lottery order has been set. Wiley appears to have dropped out of every full mock draft I've seen. Not sure if that means anything, but he's been in most if not all of them before.

Jamal Johnson (Memphis) commits to transfer to Auburn.
6'4 combo guard has to sit a year and then has 3.
We recruited him out of HS.

The NBA combine starts today so if Wiley is going to work his way onto some draft boards now is the time.

Yes.
6'4. Imagine him and Doughty on the floor at 1 and 2. Crazy length.

I don’t listen to Finebaum normally so don’t judge me, but Greene was on and he said something that is interesting (it may just be me.) He said that he goes on recruiting trips with Bruce to talk to tbe recruits families and help recruit. I guess he’s only discussing the stability aspect of our program after the scandal but damn, he’s an asset.

That's awesome. Thanks for that tidbit.

Wait... non-coaches can recruit under NCAA rules?
And not just non-coaches, but administrators?

I watched him play a few times last year, it was incredible how he was able to alter a game. Teams basically gave up scoring inside

This is a very exciting day for one of our own! Dreams do come true and @__Austinwiley50 is fixin to show out at this Combine! Proud of the way he trained and hung in all year!
Couple of thoughts:
-Wiley is buff. He’s ready to handle Lebron. I’m kidding
- Bruce Pearl’s word usage of “fixin” is hilarious. Damn rednecks.

Wiley’s physical attributes have never been his question mark. It’s going to come down to his shooting. If he can be a big that can knock down an open mid range shot he will have a strong career.
