We needed a better big than what we had. We had to settle on Turtle. As far as I am concerned we missed on Howard, Pegues, and backup 4.

Howard not being a headcase would have helped tremendously as well.

Also think we waited on Flory too long last recruiting cycle.

If he was on this team we likely win it all.

Chris Moore was a gutsy guy who gave us some defensive relief all year but he wasn’t skilled enough to provide the 2-way play you need in the post season and his minutes kinda dried up as a result.

Turtle gave us some quality minutes in the middle part of the season but was playing out of his league and faded down the stretch.

Jakai was a freshman head case and never fully grasped what Bruce was trying to teach, so he was unable to help us. I do not expect him back.

JP Pegues was just a miss. Not nearly quick enough to play PG in this league. I don’t think he played hardly at all in SEC play, even in mop up.

That left us with 7 in the tourney and we wore out.

Yeah, we could have used another solid 4, but this was the biggest issue. You replace Pegues with Pedulla from Ole Miss and we are likely playing tomorrow night.

BP not letting Howard out of the doghouse down the stretch hurt as well. Would have been nice to have him ready for the tournament

Chris Moore was a very big liability on offense. Defenses learned tbey could sag away from him thus crowding our better scorers.

He gave him some chances but he just wasn’t mature enough to get himself outta the doghouse. I agree that a guy that athletic could have helped, but he was too much of a head case to trust him in critical games.

It’s almost as if Howard shouldn’t have quit and left the court in the middle of a big game, after already having a laundry list of issues.

I agree about Howard but this thread isnt about why our team had little options on the bench as compared to Florida. Bruce said little depth was a factor last night, but I am not comparing to Florida's team.

I am talking about next year when other teams are allowed to jump to 15 scholarship players. I wonder if Bruce makes the transition, and abandons his philosophy of keeping his roster involved. If he doesn't readjust then he can be sure to be facing deeper teams on the regular.

He’s adapted to NIL and the portal, no? He can’t make more NIL appear but he has adapted and took us to the final four, again. What makes you think he wouldn’t adapt further to other changes in the sport?

I doubt we’ll use that 13th scholarship,” Pearl said. “I take pride in the fact that it’s been a while since we’ve actually had 13 guys on scholarship. And part of it is it’s hard enough to keep 12 guys happy, let alone 13. It’s not just about keeping them happy. It’s about your locker room. Plus, it always gives me an opportunity to put a non-scholarship player, (give) a walk-on scholarship.

Who is keeping 15 decent players happy? You only need 8 or 9, spend on 10 to account for misses and go for quality over quantity. Especially given our limited funds compared to bigger or basketball first schools

Ok, I must have missed this. Interesting.

I get what he is saying but I also can see an advantage of having an extra guy or two should one or two not perform the way you had hoped. Your argument is not wrong except for the fact he is doing pretty good with his concept and not to the point he should leave as Saban has.

I can’t get behind that one after a season we just had. Yes, depth played a role but more so I believe execution was more of a culprit. Did execution suffer from lack of depth? Would be interested in finding out.

The teams that can keep 15 happy have a huge advantage. Stop ignoring this.

It is not how big the roster is, but the impact players you have. We just competed in the final F#JDJ Four, never in my wildest dreams. What Bruce has done is amazing. This was the greatest team in Auburn History, won the SEC, Won Maui, Won more games, set a record for Quad 1 wins. Let's celebrate and rejoice in it.

I do not believe in peeking too soon, but we did play our best basketball in January and February. Injuries always play a part, but all teams have injuries.

As much as this was disappointing, the way Duke loss would have been devasting.

My position is there isn't anyone who can keep 15 quality players happy

If we landed RJ Godfrey at the 4 instead of Jaheim Hudson I would have felt a lot better about our overall depth

Well it's coming. Do you not get that? Next year we could sign 12 and give half scholarships to two more.

Bruce's philosophy of nurturing12 over everyone's 13 was no big deal.

But if teams have Jaheim Hudson type players as the 15th player then that where we have problems.
